Most people are neither. In fact if you start asking people questions which don't have an obvious political affiliation then you will find their preferences are all over the poltical spectrum.
Not entirely. Heterogeneity of opinions is more common among people who don’t self identify, but the stronger the party affinity, the less heterogeneity there is in opinion preferences across seemingly unrelated issues.

And as for the numbers, I present to you the be all end all historic Bible, Michigan’s ANES.

This is more of a symptom of the underlying problem with American politics these days. A lot of stuff would be fixed if Congress had to abide by the same rules as the general population.

Presidents having to pay for the own inauguration and transition teams is just a way of making sure that only rich guys have a chance at the office.

Long gone are the days of the general populace actually knowing what is going on and understanding. There isn't really anywhere one can get actual non biased news these days.

Personally I hope Trump exposes and lot of stuff that has been bottled up; and generally I feel that Congress is more of a problem than the sitting President. I find it very disturbing when Congress members openly brag about insider trading and say it is ok.

Nobody should be surprised that every billionaire donates to every president. And for whoever says trump hates gays, thats giving him so much credit. He doesn't care, he doesn't understand what policies would do beyond maybe their immediate impact in some cases. Its the people around him that hate gays and trans people.

Apple CEO Tim Cook plans to donate $1 million to Donald Trump's inauguration fund, reports Axios. The donation will be a personal donation directly from Cook rather than a donation from Apple.

Following Trump's win, Cook congratulated him on social media site X, and in December, Cook had dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Cook aimed to maintain a relationship with Trump during Trump's first term as president, and it appears Cook plans to continue on with that plan going forward.

Sources that spoke to Axios said that Cook is donating to the inauguration "in the spirit of unity." Apple is not expected to make a donation.

Trump is taking office as Apple faces regulatory pressure both in the United States and in other countries. In March 2024, Apple was sued by the United States Department of Justice for allegedly violating antitrust law in multiple ways with its platforms. The Apple vs. DoJ legal battle will play out during Trump's term.

Amazon, Meta, Uber, OpenAI's Sam Altman, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Coinbase, Toyota, Ford, GM, AT&T, Black & Decker, and Charter Communications are also making donations to Trump's inauguration fund.

Looks like the US has an openly corrupt political system. Here in the UK it’s a bit more subtle.

This is nothing more than Bizzare... Trump hates anyone who is Gay or Transgender, for an openly gay man such as Tim Cook to donate to a criminal is BIZZARE what is wrong with america.. i mean really.
I follow Apple fairly closely … I literally had no idea Tim Cook was gay until you said this. Maybe everything does not need to revolve around intersectionality?

Also - how was this article not deemed “political” and the comments restricted?

Looks like comments are restricted. 👀

Haha right! Assuming in an ideal world where everything goes where it should go. 😅

Clever play. Support the incoming presidency and the country, while gaining support for your company.
The first part yeah. The second part nah. It’s half and half on the second part with a bigger backlash than benefit.

That’s why boycotts are so damaging to big brands. A big “buy less” group will always do more damage than a “buy more” group can do advantage. And those organized boycotts have become very good at killing profits at publicly traded companies in recent years — to the point that they’re cited in corporate earnings reports.

And that’s why they had Tim do it rather than Apple to minimize the boycotting.

It’s the smart play.

Insert reference here of the Nazis winning the 1933 German election... and so many more examples from history.

And your rant about prices etc. are just an example of how uninformed Americans are about causes and effects.

There is nothing redeemable about Trump, or his election. It's just (yet another) disaster for the USA.
Oh enough with that trope. Ok so Tim Cook supports nazis by extension? Because I know where you’re going with that argument. 🙄

Donation is corruption. It should be illegal for anyone or any corporation to donate to political funding. It is long time that politicians won elections by their actions not their wallets.
Of course it should be illegal, and it was, but the Supreme Court ruled that campaign finance limitations are a limitation of “free speech.” So billionaires get more “speech” than the rest of us, and our nation becomes an oligarchy.

He most likely did but the media didn’t try and make some controversy over it.

Nope. FEC records show a Tim Cook donated, but he lives in Michigan and gave $288. Apple donated $43,200 (no idea why that amount).

It’s abundantly clear all these “donations” are protection payments to the little orange dictator.

It’s symbolic. $1 million is a drop in the bucket for both Tim Cook and Donald Trump. With the threat of tariffs it’s a smart move by Cook.

Yeah that’s the whole concern, dude. That we have business leaders openly bribing the incoming POTUS is just an additional sign of how far this country has fallen.
