This is a no-brainer decision on his part. As a chief executive officer who has a ***fiduciary duty*** to maximize shareholder value, it’s also the “right” decision. Morality and ethics isn’t really relevant, despite how you might feel.

Let’s be clear here. BILLIONS are spent on political campaigns, lobbying, etc. every single year, the majority of which comes from PACs to curry favor with politicians. And this doesn’t even count the money spent on soft influence, such as taking a legislator or someone on the Hill to a Nats game or a pricey dinner or on a trip.

This is kinda a non-story. Doesn’t matter whether you’re far left or far right. It’s just a different flavor of the same business-as-usual ice cream.

‘Murica.

They are obeying in advance. It’s not rational if you know anything about authoritarians. And it is different. America is now a country where people are afraid of a president elect and his followers. Congress is afraid of their own constituents and the wealthiest people on the planet don’t have the spine so they capitulate.

Not surprised. He bends over backwards to please China. China gets dual physical SIM cards and force inclusion of 3rd party app stores. He's only brave here in the US, where money buys influence in Washington DC. He's probably going to lobby against tariffs because he knows Apple products are already overpriced and he can't raise prices without hurting sales.

It’s rational in the sense that like it or not, this is how American politics is and has been for decades. This isn’t unique. The “authoritarian” part isn’t relevant here. That’s a different topic entirely.

No... he does what's good for Apple and its customers.

I do get that you wouldn't mind if Apple customers were all of a sudden needing to pay a high tariff on Apple products manufactured overseas.
Apple promised years ago that they would start producing more in the USA. I remember Timmy inviting Trump years ago in their Texas assembly plant where they assembled the thrash can. What happened to that promise? Is Timmy paying trump so he would forget?

Bribery is not legal in the United States. It is considered a criminal offense under both federal and state laws, and it is prohibited in both the public and private sectors.

Let me make myself clear.

I did not say TC did the right thing, I said he did it the right way (by donating his own money instead of the company's). I'm an Apple investor who thinks he did it to save our life savings (along with his own), but I still prefer that he didn't.
You, my friend, are indeed wise. 100% agree. As a CEO, it’s the best way to play it. No question.

As I said… Timmy goes where the money goes. He doesn’t have a problem with letting pay customers higher tariffs. The prices he asks customers for more RAM and bigger SSD drives proofs that.

A promise, really? To who?

The US doesn't have the required infrastructure to manufacture 600,000 iPhones per day, every day of the year.

And being able to increase/decrease that number instantly as market conditions change (instantly ramp up for coming holidays, instantly ramp down for for slow periods).

Trump said during his 2016 campaign that he would "strongly consider"appointing Supreme Court justices who would overturn the 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriages.

“We will get … transgender insanity the hell out of our schools, and we will keep men out of women’s sports,” Trump said at his recent Madison Square Garden rally, drawing an approving roar from the crowd of 20,000-plus.

He later backtracked on the gay marriage statement Ultimately, Trump is a textbook narcissist, and as such, is incapable of caring about anyone, but himself. narcissist will say or do anything they can to get what they want, which is usually flattery loyalty, and security. I doubt he cares about gay or trans people either way, he'll just say or do whatever gets him what he wants. In the case of the above statements, he was pandering to an audience.

Wait, do you hold Biden, Obama, and Clinton (Hillary and Bill) to the same level of accountability for openly opposing gay marriage for decades until it was shown it would win them votes?

Wise move on Tim’s part. So grateful to be moving forward as a nation once again…..

We're gonna have to drag half the nation kicking and screaming along with us into a better economy, safer border, and safer streets. If Trump has such nefarious plans, why didn't he run the executive branch like that in his prior term?

Apple CEO Tim Cook plans to donate $1 million to Donald Trump's inauguration fund, reports Axios. The donation will be a personal donation directly from Cook rather than a donation from Apple.

Following Trump's win, Cook congratulated him on social media site X, and in December, Cook had dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Cook aimed to maintain a relationship with Trump during Trump's first term as president, and it appears Cook plans to continue on with that plan going forward.

Sources that spoke to Axios said that Cook is donating to the inauguration "in the spirit of unity." Apple is not expected to make a donation.

Trump is taking office as Apple faces regulatory pressure both in the United States and in other countries. In March 2024, Apple was sued by the United States Department of Justice for allegedly violating antitrust law in multiple ways with its platforms. The Apple vs. DoJ legal battle will play out during Trump's term.

Amazon, Meta, Uber, OpenAI's Sam Altman, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Coinbase, Toyota, Ford, GM, AT&T, Black & Decker, and Charter Communications are also making donations to Trump's inauguration fund.
