Yes, and guess what? That's less than 1 percent of the total population of the United States. I don't want to sound glib, but are you seriously going to let a tiny fraction of a percent ruin everyone else's life and dictate how the rest of the nation should act? I would hope not.

In the words of one Yoda, "Death is a natural part of life." Live your life to the fullest, and if it's your time to go, it's your time to go.
We have been under lockdown for 18 months and wearing masks for a year+.
That’s why it’s not 6 million dead

The anti-maskers and anti-vaxers are 100% to blame for these variants and this never ending pandemic (in the US at least). Yet, these are the same fools who are saying 'enough is enough' but did nothing (and continue to do nothing) to help fight it.

We were attacked, we had the weapon to combat it and win, but no, half the nation is part of a cult who felt the need to side with the enemy (Covid) just to own the libs. Even though their cult leaders are fully vaccinated. Idiots.

And now, unvaccinated people are dying from a 99% preventable virus/disease. And the cycle will continue as we try to chase variants with boosters. We learned nothing in the 100 years since the last pandemic, despite having the technology and money to end it.

I want to be alive for this M2 variant that is coming out from Apple soon. First time getting a vaccine for anything.

Would you go into a store where 25% of the employees were infected? Especially when you can get the same products or services online.
He should personally pay them more for going in to the store to help him.

very out of touch thinking that by own admission he is making so much extra due to personal risk during pandemic that he thinks everyone should just bootstrap-up and get breathed on by him. Sad!

Legit question if anyone can answer.....at what point in the past year did people stop referring to shots as shots and instead started calling them jabs?
The British (So the UK, and many other countries) have called shots "jabs" for many decades. I kind of like it. It is a very descriptive name.

Your math is flawed because the denominator includes people who haven’t been infected. When you just include people who are infected, it’s around 1%. Which doesn’t sound like a lot, but I bet you wouldn’t go on a roller coaster where you have a 99% chance of living
I would argue your math is worse, because it's assuming that the the only people that have been infected are those within the official tally. It's entirely possible for many people to have been infected, yet asymptomatic and thus never counted.

Your denominator is leaving out a lot of people who “have” Covid-19

Well either way, you can divide any death toll by the US population to make it seem insignificant if you want

I would suggest you take a look at Well either way, you can divide any death toll by the US population to make it seem insignificant if you want
What would a statistically significant population be for the metric then?

browsing this thread is like casually stepping into a twitter comments section filled with "it's all fake!" and "save grandma! force everyone to get vaxxed!" trolls. i'm surprised this thread is still open.

delta was first spotted in india in december of 2020, around same time vaccines began to roll out. it's not "new", and it's not "because of anti-vaxxers". give it a rest already.

Just like you can divide the death rate by some arbitrary-yet-official-sounding amount to make it seem worse. I guess it depends on whether you're a glass-half-full or glass-half-empty person.

Have fun getting breathed on by science deneyers with faked vaccination cards….

I believe in science, and would close that store for the duration of the pandemic.

Since finger pointing has become popular, there's good evidence to suggest that it's the vaccinated who are spreading the virus to the unvaccinated too.

So now we're comparing variants? You do realize that there are currently 13 other variants (at least one originated in US) but sure, make COVID about a countries like Trump made it about China instead of about healthcare and people.
It did originate in China.

that’s a fact. Nobody hates China for that except for silly chuds. Don’t make this political it’s about saving lives. But the description is accurate

why waste time for feels?

And other anti-science nonsense …

Luckily delta seems to be dramatically less lethal. Which is wonderful news. Hopefully that trend continues and everyone get kappa variant and it makes no difference because it is not deadly.
Everything I have read about the Delta variant says it is not more deadly, but since the infection rate is 6, six other people are infected by each infected person, versus an infection rate of 2 for the Alpha variant. Also, vaccinated people can get it and unknowingly infect others since they may have none or just mild symptoms and do not get tested or isolate.
