When I worked at an Apple Store many years ago, sometimes I would track our incoming pallet shipments. Most came from distribution warehouses and sent via FedEx Freight, but during launch times we'd get drop shipments directly from China.

Sometimes I'd see a pallet go from China Factory -> Anchorage Customs -> Midwest Airport -> Private truck delivery to store within under 24 hours. They'd ship something on actual launch day from factory and we'd have it for sale late Saturday in store. Miracles.

One launch year I had to get a delivery at 3AM from 2 dudes in a truck with additional iPhones, just a few hours before launch.

In the first few years they had armed guards accompany the UPS/FedEx trucks to AT&T and Apple stores for launch shipments, and then private security to watch the iPhones until launch day 48 hours later.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

I have a stupid question: I'm with Verizon and I'm assuming my new iPhone will come with a new SIM card? I bought outright from Apple and I'll be replacing my 11 Pro. Does anyone know if the SIM is automatically activated or will I have to activate it? I've always just pre-ordered from Verizon and when I got the phone, I just turned my old one off and turned the new one on to go through the activation steps.

From the Verizon site, it doesn't look like there is a new SIM card for now as Verizon doesn't have standalone 5G.

I ordered a Verizon version also and will check to see if the Sim is the same or not. If it looks different, I'll activate the new sim. If they look the same, I'll probably just swap my current one.

Here's the Verizon site:

What about for AT&T? Any info on that?

Omg! Wow! such a small world. I just graduated with a Masters degree 📜 from UNLV! Class of 2020, UNLV alumni here. My bachelors was in Business Management. Living near Henderson area.
Congratulations! Our daughter changed from Hospitality management at UNLV to Business Admin Now. She would love to have the Masters degree you got this year! You get to celebrate with new iPhones! And new Watch, too! Good job!

I went to college at the U of I, and we used to visit our friends that went to SIU in Carbondale because the age to get into bars was 18. :)
When I was at U of I , bar age was 18 for Urbana and 19 for Champaign. In high school in Carbondale, we really had no issues getting into bars. Crazy times. A long time ago.

I'm not sure but looks like you can pop in your current sim for AT&T also as long as it supports LTE.
Best to look at the new SIM card in the 12 and see if it looks the same as your current one.

Yeah, Urbana was 19 when I was there too. Of course, bartenders weren't checking for IDs when serving.

They have to get through the customs as well in Alaska right?
They can and usually do but not always, especially for big hauls like say the launch of an iPhone. The hub at ANC is massive, as is the fedex hub next door, specifically because of the inbound cargo from Asia. Took a tour when it first opened and it’s impressive.
