Ah. 'Pandemic'? Well, I had someone 'gift' me an iMac, and I had to go pick it up, in the height of the Pandemic! I arrived, it was blisteringly hot that day. Like WOW! I stood out in the hell fury of a cloudless day, no sunscreen or hope of avoiding sublimation, waiting for the opportunity to claim my iMac. (They had a bin of umbrellas, but it didn't cross their mind) People were grumbling that 'They are just wandering around, looking at stuff' and shooting hate looks, but the store minions were not about to stop someone from 'browsing' (for things they didn't need). Oddly, people that said they were there to 'pick up something', and self identified in the line, were escorted into the store, and to an eager sales droid to help them on their way. Browsing wasn't frowned upon, officially, but if you were standing around looking at the ceiling, you were 'attended', and urged to find something. I was 'escorted from one possible add-on to another. The assigned sales droid was very happy when I was about to pay. (I can;t imagine being in their shoes, people just browsing always drove me nuts)
My experience, years ago (not as many, oddly, as it feels right at the moment) was 'Oh, I'm waiting for my iPhone to backup, to do the restore on my new one!' and the sales droid would say some form of 'Oh, okay', and occasionally suggest partaking of an 'educational session', rather than stand at the tables, blocking would be actual paying customers browsing for things they might actually buy, or just walking away. It was very low key though, actually.
My recent experience? Unless you self-identified, as I said above, you were expected to 'do your business', and leave. (Not unlike a porta-potty at an outdoor concert venue, but close) People in the sweltering line wanted people that appeared to be 'browsing' to die.
I imagine people that haven't 'prepared for the Holy Delivery', will get similar hate looks and curses showered on them now from those waiting in line.
Oh, funny of funny, one sales droid, on that fateful day in Chicago (Beautiful city), did say that I should have backed up my iPhone before I got there (prepared). My only way of saving myself was uttering the two words 'hotel wifi'. I was scoffed at, and ignored for the duration of my stay. (I felt guilty, trying to restore my iPhone, and left after it looked like it was going to take a while)
Your mileage may vary, but wear a mask, and BE KIND! Don''t be a jerk. And, obviously, backup before you get there.
MORE CHARDONNAY!!!🍷 (I have a bad day tomorrow. Might as well get a start on it tonight)
