Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but that theory doesn't seem very logical. It's my opinion that the main motivation of adding FW to the Macbook was to support old iPods. Since those have been converted to USB (for some time now), there isn't as much of a need in the new MB.
People keep saying that, as if it somehow proves that the iPod isn't a fad.The iPod has been a fad for over 7 years now...
It if was not short-lived, then it's not really a fad, is it?Do none of you remember the Walkman? That was a fad that lasted years and years and then suddenly died down.

Almost true. We went around minidisc and so on before. But if you notice, the Walkman was a Sony product, the iPod an Apple product. So you - likely unwillingly - just supported my view that it's a stupid idea to rely entirely on a few fashion statements - or fads if you will - in the long run as the people buying will be moving on to the next big fad soon enough. It never died down; it simply evolved...into the iPod.
Ok, how would you define it? And "the bigger picture" being what? The existence of the universe?Well, that depends how you define "short lived". Even ten years is a fad if you look at the bigger picture.

Like I said, we all have opinions. I've already posted numerous times in this thread, but just to briefly summarize:Enlighten me. I'm impressionable. Your DV argument doesn't make much more sense.
Then why do so many "consumer" Windows laptops now have firewire ports? firewire was removed from the iPod at a time when firewire was very much missing in the Windows world. Now a very large percentage of Windows computers (both desktop and laptop) include firewire as standard. Maybe Apple is trying to differentiate themselves from the Windows world by doing away with a port that is quickly becoming standard for everybody. Now that it is standard Apple wants to do away with it. Genius!Honestly, their Blue Ocean Strategy is working for them. I know many, many people who have switched to Mac's. They are all considered consumer level, and many of them have the Macbook. Most of them not only do not use Firewire, they do not know what it is. I think their decision was based on the fact that many CONSUMER LEVEL CUSTOMER'S do NOT use Firewire. No matter how disappointing it is, it was something extra for many people that they never used, that took up space. They took it out, not only for that reason, but they also needed to differentiate between the consumer level and the pro level machine. That is why i believe they took out the firewire port, because many consumers (which means people who do not check macrumors like it's their job, if at all) do not use/know what it is.
Not trying to upset anyone, just my 2 cents

Now Pro Tools users with the M box are screwed...
