They probably don’t want to be on the hook when a recession hits and then be out all that money when people can’t pay
People who can't afford to pay for a thing in-full upfront and don't have a CC, or just don't want to use it. This is more people than you think.Honestly I always wondered what the point of this is. If you use your Apple Card, you end up paying for your stuff later, so isn't it just duplicating functionality? It was a confusing product and made no sense. Who is it for?
Now we're talkin'They should have discontinued it in four easy installments...
Well, notionally, part of the whole idea of these sorts of installment BNPL plans is that they’re supposed to help build credit, and that can only happen if it does get reported to the credit agencies. As soon as they made it reflect on your credit report I dipped. Instantly killed the product.
Do you mean doesn’t fit with their “Dealer” like behavior. Psss… Go ahead… Try 3 Months of Apple Music you’ll like. This is a good thing. Being a loan shark doesn't fit with their corporate branding really.
Yeah, the editor should have put quotes around “Apple Pay Later” or made it a little less succinct in the name of clarity. Alternatively, maybe MacRumors is trying to keep traffic and engagement up now that WWDC is in the rear view mirror!Miss read this as discontinuing Apple Pay and thought oh no.
Most likely. I'm honestly not against BNPL in general, but baking that feature into the OS where everybody sees that payment option on every purchase probably made it way too easy for a lot of people to make bad decisions.Delinquencies must be off the charts.
What were they thinking?!
Fret not.Apple need to get their act together and stop releasing Apple Pay features that are US only. With all due respect to my American friends, you guys don’t even use Apple Pay! It’s shocking that you can’t even pay in almost any restaurant in the US with it. It’s shocking how low the adoption is. In the UK for example, the adoption rate of Apple Pay is practically 100% of all iPhone users. And it’s accepted everywhere. I can pay for a Michelin star meal as well as any local restaurant with Apple Pay.
I liked being able to split up a larger purchase into four interest free payments. Payments were automatically made, so there was never an issue of a late or missing payment. It was just nice to not have all the money come out of your account at one time.Honestly I always wondered what the point of this is. If you use your Apple Card, you end up paying for your stuff later, so isn't it just duplicating functionality? It was a confusing product and made no sense. Who is it for?
What’s worse someone paying $6.50 for a cup of coffee or purchasing it on installments?View attachment 2389733We live in a society
I don't really see that connection per se. The fact that they accept credit cards is benign on its own. It is what people do with the debt they've incurred after that is the issue. What’s worse someone paying $6.50 for a cup of coffee or purchasing it on installments?
I realized years ago when McDonalds started taking credits cards that it was all over, that “They” had won, and we would be drained dry.
A “loan shark” charging zero interest? Open up a dictionary. This is a good thing. Being a loan shark doesn't fit with their corporate branding really.

Sure it does. Their business model is borderline extortion to begin with.😂This is a good thing. Being a loan shark doesn't fit with their corporate branding really.
