Whoever nails the AI assistant race - I mean really nails it - will lead in hardware, IoT, and [name] store for many many consumers.

Generative AI has its uses, undoubtedly, but a virtual assistant that can understand multiple commands, context of requests, and even anticipate needs on a near human level?! Sign me up.

Watch the movie “Her” and take away all the emotive and self-aware parts (basically keep the first bit of the movie), and you’ll see the ideas which are theoretically/realistically possible; maybe not soon, but the speed at which we’re approaching it is ever-increasing.

I hope it’s Apple - ‘cause I like their hardware and (mostly) polished software - but I’ll jump ship in a heartbeat if someone else makes that breakthrough.

[well, maybe not a heartbeat]
In fact, in some respects we are quite close to this vision. I use ChatGPT-4 (the gap between 3.5 and 4 is huge) and it is a perfect assistant even at work - not a replacement, but an assistant. If OpenAI adds (partly already exists) full voice support with voice responses and improves Dall-E to match MidJourney or Adobe Firefly 2, we will be in a very similar place. Unfortunately, we will not receive an answer about consciousness for a long time. We still have much to discover here, and there are many paths. There will probably even be defenders of Cartesian dualism, material monism, pansychism, although functionalists dominate, and we can mention several other trends in consciousness research, but none of them has given us the right answer. At the level of fortune telling with "Her", we will have more failures than we think, we should rather count this time in months rather than decades.

Well my Siri has a male voice, so "it" is a he.

Hope you remember this.

You should all remember this.

Some AI CEOs and venture capitalists are already plotting how to make young people become even more lonelier and isolated.

Why?

Because they want to pimp AI girlfriends and boyfriends to you. Subscription pimping of course.

When you see them pitch these ideas, make sure they don't get their way.

Do whatever it takes to make them understand that's no acceptable.

Especially when their AI bots will be based on data scraped from real people.

The head before leaving from Google to Apple headed up Google Search and AI. I have no doubt their AI solutions in Auto and much more will add useful solutions, not gimmicks that are predominantly what is happening today.

The focus at Google was on the Server Side and Enterprise.

Apple will leverage that not with the intent of advanced scientific research on Energy production, etc., but on what we expect, Consumer tools that add value or they won't even exist.

Personally, I hope Apple invests in Quantum Computing and builds large clean server farms to add value to their Professional Solutions not to mention future endeavors that will produce subsidiaries of Apple.
Well said.
