I'd only be interested if I could mimic Morgan Freeman's or Jame Earl Jones' voice.😎

Why would I want my own voice‽
If you suffer from a degenerative disease such as MND, and know that you’re likely to loose the ability to speak, it means that you can capture your voice before you loose it. Your voice is a very personal part of who you are.

My late father lost his speech and for about a year before he died, used an app on his iPhone to communicate: but that used a standard voice, as his had deteriorated too much to capture by the time he was diagnosed.

My voice is similar to how he used to sound, and I did try and record my voice on his behalf using a couple of commercial services (Acapela and Speak Unique) but we weren’t that impressed with the results. So I am very interested to see how the Apple one compares.

How is it specious? How is it actually wrong? Just because there is potential for someone else to develop AI speech doesn’t mean it is wrong to use it in scenarios like the one depicted in the video. I guarantee Apple thought about security when doing this, whereas Google, Microsoft couldn’t care less about security.

No, you’re falling into their trap. This is all part of Apple’s plan to capture your data and then in the longer term impersonate you. Sure they have your data already, but this is the next step. It’s really a brilliant strategy by Apple and I’m just glad that some people are able to see through their deeply abundant nefariousness.

I was excited about this feature until I tried it and the quality is really bad. It will improve in the future I'm sure.

Right now if you need to use it as an accessibility feature, it's better just to use one of the included voices, such as the Siri voices.

Do you still miss that girl that got away?

Put her voice into your new AI robot and she will be with you forever. 😳

What a scary future we are heading towards.
That really evokes the creep I people!

Honestly not wanting this feature on any platform, considering the culmination of all other data and AI -
Address,
Air miles data,
Health records from health apps or hopsital / doctor records in EPIC (which is going AI soon enough),
Photos,
Relationship data (people contact call records etc),
Japan already has life like robots

Basically enough for a set top box AI robot to impersonate you and just enough to muck up your entire life or replace ya.

Would make for a great sci-fi movie.

Ah, a conspiracy theorist.

If Ariel had this, it could’ve really changed the plot of Disney’s Little Mermaid.

Perhaps they should make this into an app and call it Ursula
That would be a fun Ad to watch lol. I’d love to see that be made. I’m not sure Disney would allow it though. And Apple is trying to keep the focus on real people with real medical problems.

I haven’t suffered from one of these terrible, terrible diseases, so I’d be interested in what people for whom this is being advertised actually think.

But I’ve had a lot of medical interventions for other things and some still on the table that I’ve chosen not to do, and at some point I realized I just wanted to live with some things and accept them. In this case, I’m not sure if I permanently lost my ability to speak if I’d want to falsify that ability with tech. Hard to say until faced with it though.

Indeed. Cases like that are unique and this feature would be a godsend.

But for someone like me--whose voice is afflicted by both accent + Southern drawl😓--it's a hard pass. It's the same as an ugly man going into a house of mirrors.😱 Nope.😐

i made one of these for myself and then i made myself say a bunch of really naughty curse words and now im in trouble. if steve jobs was alive this would have never happened. 😫

I have a Personal Voice set up. It sounds like me. There’s a slight robotic sound but it’s subtle. Occasionally words are mispronounced but any of the voices Apple has will mispronounce the same words.

It’s not quite as good as some of the other AI voices (e.g., OpenAI’s) but those are generated on big servers and not an iPhone. In a year or two in sure this voice will be essentially indistinguishable from human.
