Apple once again announces...

That early adopters get screwed again...

Usually I don't car to much about this kinda stuff, but didn't i literally JUST buy this like 2 months ago? and now there is one that has x4 the storage for 1/4 more the price?

Not cool

I hope this means HD content is coming. I will buy 24 Season 6 in HD on iTunes the minute it becomes available.

So, putting this together with the YouTube on :apple: TV news ... I reckon they have also developed the user interface further so you can:

- Search using text for YouTube vids
- Buy films (movies) right from your sofa (couch)

This would be nice (not to mention logical!) functionality to see... I'd be surprised if Apple didn't introduce this soon. For a new product they sure seem to be generating a lot of hype surrounding it and trying to raise its profile. When you do such things, you better come to bat with a great solution. If you talk the talk, you better walk the walk.

I got to admit as an AppleTV owner for 3 days, I am kinda pissed.

How tough is it to upgrade? I mean opening the box is no big deal, but what about the additional hardware to format the new drive? Can that be purchased for cheap? Or do i need a $50 investment to format my $110 160 drive to hack my Apple TV

That would be nice, however I'm curious to see how Apple handles the delivery method, since an increase in bandwidth will be required both on their side and the end users' side. Perhaps customers without a decent high speed connection will simply not have downloading HD content as a feasible option for them. Which is fine by me - no need to deprive us high speed users as a result! :p :D

so does this mean that the 40 gig version will drop in price? The 160GB isn't up on apples site yet.

Do you really expect the technology industry to stand still? It came out months ago...and its about time for an extra incentive for people to buy...

Only 3 days? Check your warranty, if it is the same as other Apple hardware you should be able to return it without any hassle and then pick up a new one instead due to the short amount of time.

Boy am I excited now. Thanks to this upgrade I can still spend just as much money as those windows folks do on their xBoxes and get a fraction of the functionality! Sure, the user interface is elegant and slow, but the real winning feature for me is that microscopic, semi-useless remote that I can never find. Now that version 1.1 is out I'll continue to wait for version 3.0 before I think about purchasing it. Thanks to all the version 1.0 adopters for helping Apple develop something I'm interested in buying!

If it's 3 days old, why not just return it?

So its not for you (its not for me either) but its great for people in Apple's target market, and a lot of people love theirs...

Precisely. Some people seem to lack the ability to grasp onto the important concepts of business & technology and their nature.

My DVD library is already at 300Gb - so streaming is the only solution. For people like me the size of the internal drive is not an issue other than for photos and buffering for the streamed video.

Although...I really wish Apple would just bring out that new iPod...I'm getting desperate...

Those are 3.5" hard drives. Apple TV is 2.5". I just paid $100 for a 160GB drive for my MacBook.

Good point, I forgot they were 2.5" drives. So...

Apple should have made the ATV slightly larger in the first place to accomodate 3.5" drives. Not that much difference in size, the box is going in a media cabinet or on the TV stand, and much, much cheaper and larger storage.

It looks like the $100 for a 120GB upgrade is not a bad deal with 2.5" in mind.

I don't expect it to stand still at all, BUT at the same time, this is clearly something that easily could have been implemented in REV A.
Yes, i know i chose to purchase it, it just seems like its a little quick (at least to me) for a newer one to be out

SOMEBODY please answer this appleTV question..

hey guys,

i was wondering whether you can use the USB port on this to hook up to an Apple Airport base station and use it as a shared drive? This could then serve 2 purposes... 160gb of shared music and media from anywhere in the house, includng your tv!

Thanks

I sync half my music, all my photos, and all unwatched TV shows, movies, and podcasts to my AppleTV, and I still have 10 GB left on it. Anything that's not new, I stream. Nice upgrade, but chill... AppleTV is pretty sweet even with a 40 GB drive.

Its not like your AppleTV is worse than it was before the announcement...and the update isn't even available yet...

no you can't, just stream what's on iTunes from a separate box.
