OK. I'm quoting from the very last paragraph:

Apple reserves the right to delete any Submission, or take action against any account, at any time, for any reason.

Basically it's Apple site so they can publish or not whatever posts they want.

You do realize you're defending a policy that does not jive with the right to free speech, right?

Sure Apple has every right to delete whatever they want from their message board. But at this point do they need any more bad PR? The story that might be heard on the news just went from "A Consumer Reports study confirms that the iPhone 4 has a defective antenna design" to "After denying that a hardware problem exists with the new iPhone 4, Apple is now censoring from it's message boards any mention of a Consumer Reports study that confirmed a defective antenna design."

Actually, since I actually studied the First Amendment -- even got an A in Con Law back in law school -- I understand it only applies to government action, and even then it's not an absolute. Since Apple is not the government it can do pretty much what it wishes regarding speech on its web site.

My point is neither to condemn nor condone Apple but to give the facts if the matter.

Well, I think Apple is trying to keep the boards clean for people who have issues and need help.

I'm sure if you post JB and Unlock methods on the boards, they'd be removed too.

Worse. On the Apple forums, no one is even allowed to mention that jailbreak or unlock methods exist.

I see innocent newbies get their Apple forum posts censored all the time for casually mentioning stuff that's common knowledge anyplace else.

unbelievable. but since ure in grade school we (we as in everyone) will let it pass.

congrats, you got an A. The first amendment is not restricted only to government entities. All companies are beholden to FEDERAL LAWS.

If that were the case, there would be no blacks in corporations, women would not be working, and on and on.

are you that much of a dolt?

Stalk? Careful there. Seriously. Also recall you are the one always responding to me, not the other way around. I do have a long memory, though which is how I remember you telling me about you pal that has been on the AXP board for 27 years. Of course with AXP being a good chunk of my portfolio I do keep up with the company, ya know.

I studied the court of public opinion, and got an A+++ (triple plus, the 5th highest grade in the class). It was sunny the day I received my degree. The specificity in my description of the situation assures you that these are facts.

Step back for a minute and think about this at a scale grander than Apple's support forums. Imagine facebook started removing posts that were negative when discussing Facebook's privacy policies. How would that go over, in the court of public opinion (which is the most important court for a public company)?

This is ridiculous. Apple should only be able to remove posts that violate the terms of service of their forum. Please show me where in their terms of service they state that you cannot post links to articles which negatively review their products.

So Apple's discussion boards can have a bunch of trolls flaming and posting trash? Arent they really intended for troubleshooting?

There are posts on that forum related to the antenna issue. Are independent tests from a respected organization not pertinent to those posts?

I don't see what the big deal, since I've got the new iPhone I haven't dropped a single call. I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion.

Sorry guy, 1st Amend only applies to gov't. Go read a book on the First Amendment. How about that.

Can you reproduce the problem at all on your phone by holding your finger over that gap on the left side, bridging the gap?

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Privately owned websites are not bound by the first amendment, they can censor whatever they want.

WRONG. again. you provided little to no legalese on a subject that I would assume you would have VAST amounts of knowledge on since you got an A in Constitutional Law.

courts will look at past verdicts to determine if said entity is violating Federal Law. They can easily look into the myriad of First Amendment cases.

Really, you come off as very conceited and shall I say, a bit immature. I'm happy to see that not all Apple forum readers act in such a way.

Yes, but it doesn't affect my actual use of the phone, which is the only thing I care about.

There's a difference. Unlocking and JBing are against Apple's TOS and voids the warranty. To remove posts which either condone, encourage or provide information about the subject is legitimate.

Removing posts about articles that appear online and are of relevance to customer support issues people are having which are 100 percent within the bounds of the TOS are legitimate. To censor those comments is their right still - but unlike JBing posts - it's inexcusable.

Well, what about this website. They censor some posts as well. In addition, they give people time-outs and ban others. Are they going against the First Amendment as well? I'm surprised that you implicitly condone the actions of MacRumors.com by being a member here.;)

i'm not talking about a personal website, i'm talking about Apple as a corporate entity.
