When Samsung is now beating Apple in terms of design, then you know how much backwards Apple has gone since Steve left the place.

And now they dare to charge $999 for a Chinese made phone with a terrible design?

I'm seriously wonder when Samsung starts to sue Apple as the iPhone X has features that Samsung phones had for many years? It used to be the other way around when Steve was around.

I Think your comments are way off base. As if Apple charges $1000 for a Chinese made phone with a terrible design? Don't you think that statement is completely subjective and what does China have anything to do with manufacturing an iPhone? You do realize other smart phone manufacturers use China as well. That doesn't change Apples hardware standards.

Also, the Steve Jobs pastimes comparisons, Steve is gone and Apple is not the company they once were. It's how it is, if you don't like the way they operate, you have options for other manufacturers.

And why would it matter if you think Samsung is going to sue Apple? Based on what evidence would they do that?

I fail to see how Samsung is beating Apple in terms of design but to each his own.

I am happy for you that you like the design of the iPhone X so much.

But for a company that used to be leading the pack in terms of design and now coming up with this notch is a big fail. I highly doubt that I am the only that thinks that other edge to edge phones look better than the iPhone X.

dont like apple..? dont buy it..simple. Technology is more of a Software than hardware now..which was not the case 10 yrs back. Apple excels in software. I am android/windows user for life and ordered 8+ just now..my first apple device.

In search of tutorials now for migration...

Jobs would never have allowed the notch

I've seen people say that about all kinds of things and usually think, 'how do you know,' but I actually think it's true in this case. It's not asthetically pleasing at all, and forces UI compromises. I think he would've hidden it like the mockups show.

Once people will get the iPhone X, the notch think will fade away. Same as when Apple removed the headphone jack. Design wise, I still think the iPhone feels more premium than the Samsung flagships.

Steve would have loved the idea of the notch until it became obvious that the software was going to be severely impacted by it. I think the notch would be hard to integrate nicely regardless of how you do it but apple have picked the worst method of actively highlighting it.

Putting aside all the Steve Jobs talk (because honestly it's been long enough, and Apple is far more successful now than when he was around, so clearly they're still doing well)...

I agree regarding Samsung designing a better-looking product this time around.

Personally, I'd rather have a device like this:

or like this:

rather than one like this, where you have a non-rectangular screen with a blotch permanently missing from it:

Not just from a design perspective, but from a usability perspective; this design will force white bars and other workarounds in order to prevent your content from being blocked. I'm sure the solution that they have to this problem is great, but it's a problem that should never have existed in the first place.

So yeah. Samsung won design this time. I understand that the hype is now high for these new products, but we sometimes must put aside our own brand loyalty and give credit where it's due.

The best thing Apple could have done with the design to make the notch less noticeable would have been to make the UI render only outside the "ear" area, making the ear area exist only for the status bar... but they couldn't do that because OLED burn-in.

at this point the fat border all around the device bothers me more than the notch. makes it bigger than it needs to be. and is most likely the biggest of all the "edge to edge" phones.
and it also got fatter, while also getting a bigger camera hump at the same time.. what's going on?

"Steve Jobs would never..." "Apple sucks" and "Samsung is better" all in one opening post.

I'm just here for the comments

From a design perspective, Apple failed really hard with the notch. Apple was above and beyond anyone in terms of design when Steve was around, so Apple has really gone backward.

And I have 3 iPad's, 2 iPhones and 2 Macbook Pro's. So i am not an Apple hater.

Steve would have never allowed... (fill in the blank).

I understand Steve Jobs is and will always be appreciated. But I find this to be the most sought after quote on Macrumors and Some claim to understand his logic and thinking everything Apple does today. And no one could speak for Steve Jobs and his unpredictability.

I like the iPhone 10's design and also love my S8+'s design too :) and I never thought you were an Apple hater

Jobs would never have allowed the notch

Steve HATED bad design and tech that didn't solve problems.

Is the iPhone X a bad design? Mostly. The notch and stretched display are a mistake IMHO. Face ID, I'm 50/50 on.

Does the iPhone X solve problems any better than the iPhone 8 or 8+? Not really no.

Steve never cared about checking all the boxes for the latest specs. He did care about making the best product for enhancing a user's personal experience and journey.
