Well unless there is a good solid app that could replace iTunes as my go to music player than I'm gonna have to remain with iTunes. Is FLAC superior to ALAC? Can CDs be ripped into FLAC? I can't see myself moving away from the "Apple ecosystem" anytime soon so going with ALAC probably wouldn't be so bad for me.

The best app I know of is Swinsian. http://swinsian.com/ . It's the most iTunes-like, most embracing of the macOS.

Have you used this app yourself? I noticed it's $20. I'm wondering if syncing my music files over to this app would end up putting two copies of each song on my hard drive. I'd probably have to build my library from scratch on that app.

EDIT: I guess this may answer my own question. I imported a song (Creedence Clearwater Revival - Walk on the Water) in ALAC, 256kbps and 320kbps. I can't seem to notice a difference between lossless and 320k but I do think I notice a bit of difference between 256k and 320k. The 320k just sound just a bit richer and fuller compared to 256k. I'll test a few more songs before I decide.
