26 secs (same result 3x) in CS3

MB Pro 2.4
4GB RAM

running Firefox, Net Monitor, iCal, Quicksilver, Path Finder, Sticky Windows and VLC at the same time

I like my iMacs results and am kinda bummed about my G5's

both running CS

iMac 24" 2.8
4 gig's ram

24 secs

G5 Quad 2.5
6.5 gig's ram

18 secs

But my G5's 1TB of storage is packed to the brim (and I mean to the brim...I only have 1-2 gb free)...I'm sure that had something to do with it...

MDD PowerMac G4 dual 1.42GHz with 2GB RAM

Photoshop CS: 1 min 5 sec

Mac Mini 1.83GHz C2D with 2GB RAM

Photoshop CS(rosetta): 41sec

Amazing that the mini is that much faster even when running emulation.

A Mini is faster than my trusty (rusty) old tower! Oh dear Lord that's sad, especially since my MDD is slower than yours. It may be time to join the future, already in progress.

But where will I put all these infernal internal drives I've accumulated? And how would I heat the house this winter?

PS now I can't find the figures, but it's in the neighborhood of 1 1/2 minutes for a Dual 1.25GHz G4 with 2GB running CS2. Haven't tested CS3 yet.

Heh, this is an ego thread. I don't think I want to show mine now after seeing the Quad freaks, but what the hell.

G5 Dual 2.7, 8GB, 45 seconds with Photoshop CS3. It's 3 seconds slower with CS2.

My mac mini is faster (41 sec) even when running CS1 in emulation.

Not gloating but it just makes me feel great about my mini. :)

Radial Blur Test

Quality = Best
Blur = 100%

Powermac Dual G5 1.8 = 54sec
iMac 24" 2.8 = 22sec
MacPro :D Quad 2.8 = 11sec

All were only assigned 1Gb ram to CS3
And all were running Leopard 10.5

usually i hate thread resuretions but thanks for bringing my attention to this thread irontony!

Photoshop CS3 Extended
10.5.5
MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.0 GHz 1 GB RAM

35 sec

holy hell Intels whoop PPC's arse and 11 sec for a Mac Pro

I did it with the CS4 Beta,

With a Macbook 2.0GHz - Late 2006, 2GB Ram

37 secs. Not bad.

Nice Macpro :D

Overclocked too I see... I have the same CPU but Im using a Gigabyte board.

For the record mines only a single Quad also.

Cheers

Hi Tony,

Thanx :)

We run very similar systems and same macbooks. What's that saying gain great minds think a..... ;)

One of the reasons you see a Quadcore (even a dualcore) beating an 8-core in some Photoshop test is because not many processes can be split into threads. Hence, in Photoshop, a higher clock'd dualcore or quadcore CPU and high ram bandwidth with good latencies can perform better than 8-cores with bad latencies (yes, Mac Pro FB DIMMS have bad latency).

If you run another photoshop test such the Photoshop Benchmark Test on Driverheaven (tougher test than this one or on the stickie above), you might be surprised to see a higher clock'd dualcore beating an 8-core too.

Personally, I think 8-core is way overkill for Photoshop use (because not everything can be threaded). Quadcore is just about perfect, and massive RAM don't make that much of a difference to performance. 4GB is plenty.

I'm keen to test CS4 soon. Whenever a trial is available for dowload.
