For the longest time I have been having problems with Apple mail.

A while ago I had a problem with the accounts. For some stupid reason, accounts used to have the checkbox "Use only this server" (for SMTP servers) unchecked by default, and what happened is I tried to send a letter, and the connection to the SMTP server failed for that account, so it used the SMTP server of a different account and send it with that email address. I was trying to send a letter through my game/social account, but instead it sent through a personal account!! And let the email address out in the open.

Later that checkbox became checked by default.
(So stupid)

But anyway, that was then. I've always had minor problems where mail would not give me all my mail, and only give some of it, until one day it will dump all those old messages.

Well, just recently, instead of having all my accounts forward mail to one account, I changed it back to having separate accounts so I can send mail with one of those accounts instead of having to log into Gmail webmail.

And I've been having constant problems with having 5 accounts. Almost everytime it would fail to connect, or not fail but say there is no mail when there actually is.

But just now, actually for the past few days while I left my computer running all this time for SiteSucker to do it's thing, Mail has not given me mail for some of my accounts. It almost always gives me my mail for my first account, my personal account, but not for the others, the social ones where I get the most mail.
It just said there was no mail, and occasionally give me some emails, but then the rest of the time wouldn't.
So then I logged into webmail and found TONS of mail in my accounts!! And I found one mail in my personal account that Mail already gave me and I already read.

There's been many other problems too... I've also had frequent login problems where Systen Preferneces would ask me to login to google for the 3 social accounts, when it is already logged in!

Bloody hell, this is the last straw, I'm finished for this stupid piece of crap software!! Nothing but trouble with this garbage!! Richest frogging company in the world, can't even make decent email program!!

Well that's the end of my rant.

Any other good email programs out there? I tried Dropbox's Mailbox but that's in beta and I don't really like how it works (they have an idea that you should delete emails from your inbox as soon as you're done with them, but that's not what I do). Thunderbird... ehh... too old-fashioned. Maybe I should just use Gmail webmail and use their notifications app thing. Idk.
It really sucks that this apple mail sucks because I like the interface of it and all but it is just so glitch and buggy and it just... UGHH!!
I'm trying out different email clients. Opera Mail looks interesting.

Mail has been the neglected child for years. Bugs that were present in 10.1 are still present today. I have give nit a try on every new version of OSX, sadly none seem to have improved. Constantly forgetting passwords as well as never quiting are the two ones which would **** me off the most.

Try MailMate, my favorite client that has worked consistently for me for the past two years. If you care about interface, than MailMate won't fit your bill. If you care about reliability and powerful features, MailMate is the app.

IMHO Mail.app can't be taken seriously as a proper e-mail client. For some basic use maybe but there are still bugs present, which have been there for years.

I'm not saying we need as complex as Outlook but a bit more advanced mailing client would be great.

The features are all just fine. All it needs is it's damn bugs fixed and it would be the best email client ever (for me at least).

I've been using both apple mail and Airmail 2 (because I want to keep my personal and work e-mail separate) and I must say that Airmail seems faster and in many ways more natural. It also has some rough edges and quarks, but it is very good and different enough from mail that you might find it works for you.

Just to balance the opinion a little here… I love Apple Mail.

Have been using it since it used the 'drawer' UI paradigm and had pinstripes & aqua 1.0.

I'm relative new to OS X but have found the mail app in yosemite simply blows.
The mail app in iOS is great, never a problem there. I thought being a newbie to OS X was the problem and simply used my iPad for mail. A few posts above stated that mail has been improved in El Cap.
Hope they are right, till then its the mail app on my iPad that I'll use.
I have multiple email accounts. There lies the problem I think.

I have little complaints with Mail on OS X. About the only thing I don't like is it's limited and clunky search feature and when searching, it brings you to a conversation with the keywords, but not the email itself you're looking for.

Which parts of the application exactly is it that "simply blows"?

I have 7 email accounts. Of the 7, 3 of them will NOT connect and stay active.
2 gmail, only one works, 3 yahoo accounts, only one works. That blows. The others and the one each mentioned above work perfectly. All work flawlessly in iOS.

I use Outlook 2011 at work, and mail.app at home on essentially the same model MBP. The former mostly works, the latter somewhat troublesome. I may just switch to Outlook for home use.

Whenever I restart my computer, I have to re-enter all my Gmail passwords (4 accounts) ... every time ... without fail. Other than that infuriating headache, it works fine. I don't get why it's so hard to make a core app function properly. I mean ... at least they finally added a two-step verification window for Gmail accounts.

I don't use Gmail so can't say for sure but maybe the problem is on Gmail's end. Just sayin'. Mail is a two-way street.

I don't have issues with Apple Mail except sometimes when I'm on the road my usual server to send mail isn't accepted. I blame that on the internet setup at that hotel and/or some kind of port identification/authentication with either Bluehost (my main mail server host) or Comcast(my alternate send mail server). Mail in general is somewhat complicated and issues can come from several sources, especially if you don't exactly know how to set your account up perfectly on Apple Mail.

I guess my needs are a lot simpler, I have my iCloud email address and a hosted email address that I use and both work well.

I am involved in several different businesses. It helps to keep them seperate. I also have a personal, family email address. These are all very old accounts that were established prior to iOS with lots of history and business connections that are valuable.
Point being they all work well on iOS. it would be nice if they all worked on my Mac's as well.

Apple Mail is a good albeit very basic environment that is purposely devoid of features. Nothing wrong with that.

Conversely in the world of iOS and OS X apps there's a plethora of choices both free and paid. I use Cloud Magic, it's ideal for the heavy volume of mail I handle.

I don't have this problem in other mail clients. Only Apple Mail.
