For the longest time I have been having problems with Apple mail.
Any other good email programs out there? I tried Dropbox's Mailbox but that's in beta and I don't really like how it works (they have an idea that you should delete emails from your inbox as soon as you're done with them, but that's not what I do). Thunderbird... ehh... too old-fashioned. Maybe I should just use Gmail webmail and use their notifications app thing. Idk.
It really sucks that this apple mail sucks because I like the interface of it and all but it is just so glitch and buggy and it just... UGHH!!
I'm trying out different email clients. Opera Mail looks interesting.

Never had a problem with Apple mail and I use it very extensively - although I don't use it with Gmail accounts which have traditionally been a pain point for people due to Google's loose implementation of the IMAP protocol in the past (not sure if that's improved recently or not). It sounds like you're using Gmail here, which may be the root of your problems (not that you shouldn't be using Gmail - just that it and Mail.app haven't always gotten along well).

I do like to tinker with mail apps though and have tried more than a few. Airmail is pretty but buggy. Spark by Readdle is available for macOS now and is pretty nice but lacks a lot of standard features. Thunderbird is often recommended but its built-in search functionality is poor compared to what Mail.app offers.

If Thunderbird is too old fashioned for you, you might want to look at Postbox - it's based on Thunderbird, but with a much updated UI and it plays very nice with Gmail. It's not free, but there's a free trial and it's generally highly regarded. They've also improved the search abilities in Postbox. Not quite Mail.app level but close.

After I stopped using Apple Mail I used Opera Mail for a while; I liked it mostly except that it was buggy.
At the start of this school year I got an Office 365 license/subscription from the school and had downloaded Microsoft Office, and decided to use the Microsoft Outlook for my mail. It's pretty good; works well.
I have an Office 365 subscription as well and I agree that Outlook looks quite decent. The UI is very close to the Mac Mail and for those who prefer an integrated mail/calendar/contacts/to do environment, it is the best alternative out there, albeit not free.

However, I still prefer Mac Mail over the Outlook, mainly because I'm used to it and have no problems with it.

It doesn't take that much space to begin with (less than 8GB in my case) and proved itself so many times to be extremely helpful for finding old records for tax and warranty purposes, to settle old disputes, and keep a record of business correspondence. Spotlight is great for finding what you are looking for among the seemingly buried information when you need it, which is very hard to do it otherwise. When you filter your search by name and subject, you also get a chronological list of correspondence, which is very useful for building a case file if needed.

I consider it as a searchable time-line of my life and it is easier than keeping a diary or logbook.
That's actually a great idea...

I like it because the interface works the way I want, like in Apple Mail, and it's the least glitchy. Though, it has a lot of features and stuff that I don't use, and it's a bit weighty.
When my 365 "subscription" expires I think I'll use Thunderbird.

I have to use Outlook at Work on a Mac and do not like it. The old version has no reliable search, the new one insists on showing conversations, no matter how often I tell it not to.

There is no reason to complain about Apple's Mail when there are so many many alternatives. You can use many other programs. Or you can use the web service of your own ISP. I find that TWC's web service is easier and simpler than deal with Apple's. With so many options complaining about one is like tailgating someone on a four lane highway with lanes open on both sides of you, but demanding that the car in front of you go faster. I don't know how many times that has happened, and then I have to take one of the lanes to get away from the irrational tail-gator.

I agree Apple Mail "iCloud Mail" literally sucks and lacks all the powerful features the Gmail has for instance. It is a minimalist in nature. Gmail is outstanding and they are constantly updating with features. I've had the old Apple email and then it converted to this iCloud and still lacks clarity. I wish they would make it into a quality product like many of their items. I use the Apple platform and it still sucks.

There are a number of mail utilities that are available at the Apple Store to make mail quite powerful.
