I read threads like this and know I'm making the right choice by not using streaming music services. I've just tried Spotify and it's crap. Seems like I actually have to have a paid account to use it fully. The "free" option sucks.
Keep in mind the bulk of the comments in this thread are over a year old. I haven't read an article about people losing their music in a long time. Apple Music now has 27 million subscribers, so it is adding a million or more a month (on average). I would still recommend that anyone starting the process makes a backup of their music files and their iTunes library files, though.

Also, if you trusted MacRumors comments for everything, I doubt you would ever own anything from Apple, most of the threads on the main page have a high percentage of Apple-hating comments.

Yes, they want the free option to suck bad enough that you eventually pay for the service, but not so bad that you stop using it all together.

Yeah I guess that's true. Most of those who are vocal are those expressing an issue with something. I do back up my Mac and even my phone. I'm just weary as I keep my music pretty well organized in iTunes and I don't want it screwed up. I'm trying out Spotify now but I'd also like to try Apple Music. If I only turn it on my phone it won't affect my Mac right? I still want to be able to sync playlists from my Mac to my phone.

I hope you forgot to add /s at the end. Otherwise, I am truly sorry that you can't just listen to 30+ million songs for free while musicians get paid gold coins by leprechauns.

I have no problem paying for something smart ass. But it seems many others just use the free tier instead. I tried that but ran into all these pop ups saying I couldn't use this or that feature unless I paid. Are these other people not getting these pop ups? Or are they finding work arounds to give themselves a pleasant experience for free?

Those that use the free tier understand the trade off, and don't keep trying to use paid features, too keep seeing the popups over and over. Like users on free YouTube, Pandora, Free Google Music etc. plus don't whine and call people smartasses, but to each their own ;)

I'm just making a point. Not "whining" at all.

I am happy with Apple Music and that is the one I am staying with.
  • Spotify has great sound quality but a poor library of titles.
  • Amazon Unlimited the same unless you like country music.
  • Google Play Music has about the same library that Apple Music and includes YouTube Red but the poor sound quality that hurts my ears even at Always High is the reason why I will drop them. Those who say it sounds good should get there hearing checked. Stop listening on cheap $30 Bluetooth speakers and cheap white $5 earbuds.

I switched recently from Pandora One (Prime) and found out what I had been missing !

Spotify - for the week that I had it seems like a great system for those who want to build and share lots of playlists. I didn't find their 'radio' stations all that great. I was used to Pandora's station style, so that is what I was comparing to.

Apple Music - Stations are similar in function to what Pandora had - but much more music to add to the variety. Playlists are great too - curated or the one's I make for my own. I don't see AM as a big disorganized mess. Although I wouldn't mind seeing improvements made to the interface of iTunes - maybe a separate AM app.
A big plus for me is the integration of AM to my iPhone, AppleTV, and the ease of using iTunes on my computers (at work or home).

Nothing against Spotify - it just didn't fit me.

So I have an Apple Music account now that works wonderfully for my needs.
