Beat me to it... DSOTM was on the charts for some 990 weeks! This list is utter bollocks.
It has a lot to do with the selection methodology. I'm a proud Boomer. Most of the music I enjoy I purchased outright so most of my streaming is newer stuff. Most popular streaming is different from most popular.

Quantity of irritated snark in the comments matched expectations on a “best of” music article, especially for a MacRumors post. Always love these lists. Some new and old things to visit.

Apple Music today unveiled its list of the top 10 albums of all time, with Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" securing the number one spot.

apple-music-100-best-albums.jpg

The announcement is part of a 10-day countdown event culminating in a special finale featuring discussions with prominent artists and Apple Music hosts. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," released in 1998, was praised for its impact and relevance. Hill was given an award made of blasted anodized aluminum sourced from recycled Apple products. The top 10 albums list is as follows:
  • 1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), Lauryn Hill
  • 2. Thriller (1982), Michael Jackson
  • 3. Abbey Road (1969), The Beatles
  • 4. Purple Rain (1984), Prince & The Revolution
  • 5. Blonde (2016), Frank Ocean
  • 6. Songs in the Key of Life (1976), Stevie Wonder
  • 7. good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012), Kendrick Lamar
  • 8. Back to Black (2006), Amy Winehouse
  • 9. Nevermind (1991), Nirvana
  • 10. Lemonade (2016), Beyoncé

The selection process involved Apple Music experts and a group of artists, songwriters, producers, and industry professionals. This ranking is described as a modern, 21st-century evaluation of the greatest records ever made, created independently of streaming statistics.

In addition to the top 10 list, Apple Music has created 100 audio vignettes to accompany each album on the list, providing context and stories behind the records. These vignettes, along with additional content, are available across Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books.

This list may be what finally makes me move to PC.

Right... but the main post even says:

It sounds like they didn't even take into account streaming numbers.

I followed the hundred album release over the last week. I thought it was fun with lots of good music on there. I was concerned they would avoid Kanye or MJ, but they didn't.

My only complaint is that it was hard to find the shorts explaining their rationale for each pick. The pick itself is only part of what makes these interesting, it's the explanation why.

Rather than using these lists as confirmation bias or getting mad over what’s on or not on it, folks should use it as an opportunity to discover some new music. I discovered Aja thanks to this list and plan on listening to some others, including Lauren Hill. Hell, I’m no Swifty, but I was listening to 1989 the other day to see what some of her deeper cuts were instead of just the stuff you always hear on the radio.
Hear hear! That’s how I view these lists. I have no need for validating my own taste…

However, why is Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ not on number 1? 🤪

Is there a larger list? This article only references a top 10, and there’s is no one named “Aja” on it…

They have the wrong list! This is the list:

nr 1 album of all time with a terrible cover of cant take my eyes of you....

if they put Thriller on the number 2 spot i would like everybody to realize that the number one spot was stolen because these day's an album like Thriller would be too much of a risk to come out as the winner. They have to keep in mind that there will be trolls these days regarding MJ and that would have made the discussion about the list too negative.

Yes, let's worry about upsetting anyone and bend the truth to appease others. This is how "all kids get a trophy" became a thing and created entire generations of soft and entitled kids who are now adults.

I'm pretty sure no song by Beyonce will be used at sporting events, movie scenes, commercials, and otherwise all around us as we do with ACDC and Journey.
She's quite literally performed at the Super Bowl multiple times. Her music has popped up in loads of movies and commercials.

What's this weird end goal you have here with a statement like this? Why can't you just be like "yeah her music's not for me" instead of trying to find a way to invalidate an artist's place? It's such a weird behavior.

The average year of release for each ten breaks down as follows:

91-100: 2004
81-90: 1990
71-80: 1997
61-70: 1990
51-60: 1989
41-50: 1988
31-40: 1989
21-30: 1984
20-11:1986
10-1: 1995

I'm a bit surprised at the leap forward in the average age of the music of the top 10.
