Personally, I think iOS 6 was hideous, but for some people it was the pinnacle of iOS. To each their own.

I get similar or better battery life on my 6+ with iOS 9(I haven't had a lot of time to confirm, but so far it is promising), and I'm not having any of the issues that folks are posting about. It's possible that the complainers are just gonna complain.

While I don't agree with OP's sentiment in any way, I will note that my iPhone 5 runs very hot on iOS 9 and eats battery like no tomorrow. I've gone from 50% to 35% in just a minute or so, and the iPhone is clearly much warmer.

This is common after upgrading iOS. There is a lot of spotlight, etc activity for a period afterward.

It's not so much that every aspect of iOS6 and earlier looked good (many unimportant apps looked terrible), but I am not a fan of the direction Jony and the team took things.

To simplify everything so much and then add transparencies, animations, parallax, etc to compensate for how simple things look... They've just replaced one evil with another. If skeumorphism is unnecessary, surely all these effects are more unnecessary, and they are actually impacting performance.

No, since forever. Every single year there's complaining after every release of iOS/OS X and how a previous release was the pinnacle of human achievement.

There's no disputing that iOS has been a buggy mess ever since iOS7 launched. It took almost a whole year to get iOS7 working reasonably well, and look how many updates iOS8 got! That was a heck of a mess for most of the year too. Now we have iOS9 which despite being marketed as a performance update, still appears to be a buggy mess. Sure some say that it's great but some reckon 1GB of RAM is fine and that the 6+ is buttery smooth, so I take the positive comments with a pinch of salt if lots of others are hating on it.

1 GB of RAM is not ideal, no. But my 6+ runs very very smooth on 8.4 in nearly everything, and that's with a jailbreak and a theme applied. With stock it runs even better.

My 6+ would run like a champ for a bit but then inexplicably bog itself down. When this happened you'd get either a stutter (lag), a briefly unresponsive touchscreen, the whole screen would freeze for 5-20 seconds, Safari would crash, or you'd get a Springboard crash.
It wasn't lag central all the time, but these occurrences were frequent. If you didn't do anything even remotely 'demanding' then it would appear 'buttery smooth' for the most part. The trouble is, basic smartphone tasks were 'demanding'.

Then there was the app switcher lag, rotation freezing, weird auto-rotation and of course the dreaded tab & app reloading. This was all still happening 11 months after release and I can't for my life imagine that a later version of iOS would miraculously cure the faults, especially when the new version of iOS has a reputation for exhibiting lag itself. Add a laggy o/s to a laggy phone and the results aren't going to be pretty.

It's a shame that the iPhone 6 seems to struggle with iOS9 too because that phone was a hell of a lot smoother than the 6+ upon release. If there's nothing inherently wrong with the iPhone 6 then why does the i5 and 5S appear to handle iOS9 so differently? The 5S is 64Bit and only has 1GB of RAM so what's the problem? Is it the bigger screens being too much for the i6 CPU/GPU, or is there some other hardware issue?

And a design person like Scott would have nothing to do with efficiency of the phone.

I also have said many times - you really have to give a new OS on a phone a couple of days - there always seems to be first day activity that goes away after a day.

He also didn't rely so heavily on transparency effects, motion, and animations, which is where the OS is lagging.

I get less lag with transparency off on my iPhone 6, but it does still hiccup, especially when I pull down the search box.

So how come when you upgrade to a new iPhone and start using it whilst the iCloud backup and indexing is going on, it is always more zippy than your old phone? The speed increase is instantly apparent despite heavy background tasks going on. You don't have to leave it two days before it starts to work decently.

Because the final build of previous release isn't the same launch-day previous release.
Months of bug fixes and tiny performance improvements have been squeezed in.

And a new release, which is quite buggy, contrasts starkly with the fully-patched previous release instead of launch-day previous release.

They ain't gotta change a thing as long as the sales keep up and they make money to keep investors happy.
That's true, that's why I'm choosing not to upgrade this year any of my Apple devices. I'm so fed up with all this. They need a wake up call.

Waking up from most users being just fine and happy and continuing to buy?
