I find Face ID no more hassle than Touch ID tbh. I like them both equally.

And they both work just as fast as each other. I mean, I look at my phone to make sure the Face ID prompt has popped up on screen anyway, at which point I’m ready to pay.

edit- Actually, how does one invoke Apple Pay through the wallet app?
Can't quite remember, but I think you open the wallet app, select the card you want to use, then put it on the reader. I'm not quite sure if you can pre-authroize with TouchID, though. It's been a while.

Between TouchID and FaceID on iPhones, FaceID seems to work a lot faster. Maybe it was because I had an iPhone6, but having to put the phone on the reader, waiting for it to trigger ApplePay, then TouchID registering, it was quite a long time. Then there were the instances where the reader didn't trigger the NFC, so I'd have to swirl the phone around the reader to find the sweet spot.

This was certainly because of the first generation Touch ID. I used to have issues sometimes on my iPhone 6 as well but on the iPhone 8 Plus it was a dream. I can’t remember it failing even once. Maybe a couple of times throughout the whole year I used it before upgrading to iPhone XS Max.

I’ve used all 3 methods as well and definitely find the  watch to be the most convenient.

This. I’ve only used Apple Pay with Touch ID and Face ID once just to see how they worked but I’ve always used it with my Apple Watch since day 1. To quote Rene Ritchie paying with my card or even my phone makes me feel like an animal :D
Hahah. I’ve used my AW for AP only a handful of times because I keep forgetting to use it (got used to using my phone for AP before I got my AW), but I agree it’s easier, EXCEPT sometimes when I had only one hand available—because I think you always have to double click the side button on the watch to invoke Apple Pay? Or does it automatically come up when you put the watch next to the reader? I haven’t tried that, but I’d think that would be a security risk since someone could stand next to you and put a reader next to your wrist without you knowing. Anyway, so sometimes if I only have one free hand, I find it a little faster to pull out my phone with the one free hand and pay that way, rather than switching arms or putting something down—but it really depends on what is exactly that’s occupying my other hand.

I have a similar issue when just looking at the time haha. If my sleeve is covering my watch, I have to use my other hand to move the sleeve, so sometimes I’ll just pull out my phone to look at the time if I’m holding something. It’s also easy since I have a small SE, which is very easy/quick to take out and drop back in my pocket.

You have to double tap the side button to use Apple Pay on the watch. My phone is always under a pile of junk in my bag so it’s much easier for me to just use my watch. I had the original from launch and Apple Pay rolled out in the UK a few months later so I’ve always just used it on the watch. It’s quite handy when you’re pushing a stroller.

I can't use Apple Pay, but in no circumstances you need to hold your phone "up to your face" for Face ID to work. And I doubt AP is any different.

Face ID works with sunglasses. It depends on the lens. I have two pairs and Face ID only works with one pair.

For me, FaceID sometimes works with my polarised sunglasses, but most of the time it does not. Especially when the sun is shining really bright and coming from a certain angle.

I don't buy polarized sunglasses, because they don't play nice with one of the displays in my car. Face ID doesn't work with any of my non-polarized sunglasses. I had to turn off require attention because of it.

To be fair, I don't believe polarization has anything to do with FaceID working or not working. I'm fairly certain it has more to do with IR protection on the lenses. If they block IR, they block FaceID.
