Had to restore my phone last night and now when i want to use Apple Pay is prompts me the message 'Touch id or passcode required to pay'. Now Apple Pay is set to on in Touch ID settings and my thumb and index finger are set up so i dont know why it's saying this as it's been working fine since Halifax has been able to use Apple Pay.
Shall i remove the card and set it up again or is there something else i can do cos i'm stumped

Set the card up again and the message is gone.

After speaking with a friend working at barclaycard/Barclays in the UK, he confirmed to me that they are working on Apple Pay aiming for a launch January/February time. After resorting to the fact that bPay just did not work.

Did anyone actually buy those stupid keyfobs or phone stickers? Such a dumb idea.

Glad I'm not with Barclays. Was bad enough waiting for Lloyds to start working.

I was with Barclays up to the point where they announced they wouldn't join Apple Pay, I then moved to First Direct.

I'm looking to move again due to FD's online banking not giving you the ability to view your available balance. One point where you can't knock Barclays is the fact that their online banking is the best in the business.

Once they have Apple Pay, I may be inclined to rejoin..but we'll see.

Come on Starbucks! Went to use ApplePay today in Starbucks, not only do they not support ApplePay they do not support contactless! Crazy! First time in a while I've need to put my card in the machine. It's a brand new store as well. Opened yesterday.

Thats bizarre as they made a big noise about offering it now. I've seen signs in the MK ones (I usually use the app though).
Maybe it was a lack of staff training...
I'm getting sad at spotting ingenico terminals now.. Hotel I stayed in last night had one so paid for my parking (city centre location) with my watch...

Seems rather weird that a new shop doesn't support contactless. I'll have to check the one in the shopping centre, can't remember if that one has contactless terminals.

You could be right about the training. I'll have another go tomorrow.

Yeah, my local Starbucks supports Apple Pay, maybe your one doesn't have updated terminals yet?

Good news, everyone! The cafe inside my work supports Apple Pay, which means I can just leave my wallet in my car rather than carry it around with me all day :)

So far everyone said Waitrose would only allow up to 30 quid, I am glad that has changed will try asap.

Yes I asked the staff when the £30 contactless limit came in and they said it was still the same.
It was quiet at the self scan tonight so I could try without looking a muppet. Felt like it took a little longer to go through, but it did so. Was with a Natwest visa debit.
Finally my use case for the watch is coming to fruition lol. Shop using Bring app and then pay as well. My poor, regularly dropped on the shop floor iPhone is happy!

Looks like co-op Bank will be introducing Apple pay. Had mail with new terms and conditions today and it included references to Apple pay.

Glad I'm not with Barclays.

I think the Barclays bPay key fobs are great as a backup - no batteries required, and won't crash or shutdown like a problematic smartphone. I don't have an Apple Watch so using my plus-sized iPhone on London transport just doesn't sound like a good idea, with crowded platforms and the risk of dropping/damaging my phone. Using a key fob on the Underground is so much easier especially when my other hand is carrying bags, etc.

A lot of people are put off by the fact that the Barclays bPay is a virtual wallet that needs topping up. That to me is actually an advantage because if I ever lose it, I'm only out of pocket for the amount that's left in the virtual wallet. So I'm not particularly worried that there's no security like Touch ID built in.

The biggest problem with the bPay devices is the cost! Barclays seriously need to rethink their pricing as people are so used to getting contactless cards for free from their bank. I reckon they'll get a lot more people on board if they were priced at 5 quid or so rather than the 20 quid they normally charge.

If they want more people to adopt it as a method of payment they shouldn't be charging for it at all. As it happens whilst I have a BarclayCard Visa credit card it's not my primary method of payment so the fact that it doesn't work with ApplePay is no big deal. I much rather use ApplePay and as I have a watch it's pretty simple and straight forward to use any way.

Well, I'm sure most of us would want the bPay device to be free, but realistically these things cost a bit more to make, with product packaging and an App to maintain, than a credit/debit card with contactless. Another difference is that they can be linked to cards from other banks, so Barclays lose out in that way (eg. a non-Barclays credit card linked to bPay would not earn Barclays any interest when customer borrows)

So I think 5 quid for the device that's more robust and easier to use (with gloves on, for example) and no 'card-clash' (I have at least 3 contactless cards in my wallet) is pretty reasonable.

I've been using  Pay for nearly 3 months now and think the novelty has almost worn off in the UK.

Last week I used it on all my purchases
at these places and in and around Edinburgh :-

Co-op Food (x 3)
Scotrail Ticket Office
Boots (x 2)
M&S Food
M&S Clothing (>£30)
 Store

In all cases the cashier/salesperson did not make any remark or exclamation as I think they had seen it all before.

Yeah I agree, no one seems interested now when I'm paying with my iPhone. Still get the odd look when using my watch though.

Went back in there again today. Still no contactless or ApplePay. However the one in the shopping centre excepts both.
