I've been using  Pay for nearly 3 months now and think the novelty has almost worn off in the UK.

Last week I used it on all my purchases
at these places and in and around Edinburgh :-

Co-op Food (x 3)
Scotrail Ticket Office
Boots (x 2)
M&S Food
M&S Clothing (>£30)
 Store

In all cases the cashier/salesperson did not make any remark or exclamation as I think they had seen it all before.

Yeah I agree, no one seems interested now when I'm paying with my iPhone. Still get the odd look when using my watch though.

I think the advertisements appearing on TV from the various banks now may also have something to do with it. If someone has seen one of those advertisements then they may not be inclined to blink an eye when seeing someone using ApplePay as it's not something they have not heard of or seen it before.

Clearly here in the shires it's a different kettle of fish... I prefer self scan at waitrose just to avoid the conversations half the time as I've got bored of explaining that my watch can let me pay for stuff..

I would be amazed if they've lost more than a handful, when you look at how many they have, how many people could potentially have devices able to use Apple Pay, how many will actually want to use it in preference to debit cards, and how many would actually take the painful step of switching accounts, cards, direct debits, standing orders and all the other associated admin just because of this.

Switching accounts takes absolutely no effort these days, I changed to the Halifax last year, I signed one form and they did everything. The system is so advanced that even if a debit or credit is made to my old account it will automatically be processed to my new account for 6 months after the changeover.

Not to mention the Halifax gave me £100 to switch and £5 a month for keeping the account with them.

The biggest problem that Apple Pay has in the UK is that nobody knows about spending limits. If you go to an Apple Store you can spend as much as your bank lets you. At Aldi it still says on the terminal that there is a 20 quid limit. At Morrisons I had a guy at the checkout who refused to even try if my 27 quid shopping would work. Apple needs to employ people to make these things work, make retailers aware of the fact that Apple Pay can be unlimited, give users info on the restrictions of different retailers. I know that is a massive task, but it needs to be done if they want to survive.

I'm sure retailers are well aware of the fact it can be unlimited; it's a question of whether they have the appetite to update their software or not.
As to which retailers have updated to the £30 limit or more, I do try and look at the contactlesslife website and Twitter, but you're right, we're not in a position to confidently leave our cards at home for £30.

As an aside, my £169 waitrose purchase from last Friday still hasn't shown up on my statement. Trying to work out if it's showing up as cleared - lots of direct debits and payments come out of this account. I think a trip to the bank is in order at lunch..

Blimey, this thread got buried...

Anyway, I got an email today that Tesco credit card will soon support Apple Pay. Also, I've seen updated terminals show up in some of my local smaller branches, ones that are contactless capable, but haven't been switched on yet. I would think Apple Pay and having these terminals activated will happen on or around the same day.

Tesco and Barclaycard adding Apple Pay would make everything right with the world! Haha! I'm joking of course...but I love the simplicity of Apple Pay!

Interestingly, my other half used his contactless Amex card (linked to his work iPhone Apple Pay) for a transaction over £30 (it was offered on the payment terminal and he didn't think about the transaction limit) in Waitrose. It literally broke the self service terminal. The assistant then took him over to a till where the same thing happened!

Both transactions showed up on the card statement, but the tills both crashed!

I do wonder whether this is dependent on the specific branch. Towcester's self scanning terminals had a software update so you don't have to rescan your payment card when you've finished shopping. I've paid for £160+ with my watch several times now (natwest).
I've noticed Brackley's one still asks you to swipe your payment card at the end of the scanning. I don't spend enough in that one to know whether >£30 would send it up in smoke as yours did!

He didn't actually use Apple Pay - it was his card that screwed it. Obviously, the payment terminal allowed it because of Apple Pay, but when it realised it was a physical card, it had a but of a melt down

Used Apple Pay at M&S the other day for £25, so the £30 limit is in place there now.

Has anybody used Apple Pay at McDonalds? It worked for a while for me, now every single time I use it, the terminal asks for a card security check. The McDonalds staff say that it's just a random security thing, but it happens every single time I go there.

The £30 limit was mentioned as few days ago, I believe its is accepted,at least in the B.P. garage.
Yeah I meant removing the £30 limit so I can fill my car up on Apple Pay. The last time I tired to explain that some shops had done it already they were looking at me like an idiot...

I've also spent over £30 in M&S.

I've only had the security check once at McDonald's. It's worked every other time.
