MP 7,1 Apple Pro Display - trickle down?

I would agree there isn't a chance at all these drop in price. Only option is used and even then it will hold a lot of value.
Well, the original ACD came down in price after a while so this could too. I think the screen is amazing but super expensive for most people. I would get one if it was half price as (CAD8.8k pre tax is just insane) but as it is now I can't justify that.
The tech will get cheaper and there will be new tech so it would be nice to have one PRO display like this XDR and then have another 'prosumer' one that is 1/3-1/2 price with less features. As of now, there is no Apple display to serve prosumers except of the crappy LG which looks awful and is not Apple anyway.
I think having Apple Cinema Display and Apple XDR PRO Display would just be fine for everyone.

It's just a bummer that the nano tech and stand is an additional cost. I also noticed that AppleCare is extra just for the XDR. In the past both MacPro and Displays were covered under one AppleCare policy.

The 30" Cinema was also very expensive at release ($3299 - and there's been some inflation since then - it would be $4494 or so today). It eventually went down in price, Dell cloned it (much cheaper, same panel, similar backlight), and the later displays were cheaper primarily because they shared a panel with (much higher volume) iMacs.
Speaking of which, Apple just needs to make a display from the 5k iMac. Further, there really is no excuse to not make the imac work as a display at this point too. They should be able to easily make a 5k display for under 1200.
They clearly are not interested in this although I wish they did as well. They let LG make a 5K display like that with the exact same panel as the iMac one for a while now. I'd love to have that 5K with the mac pro styling, bezels and build quality but if the LG version already is $1299 an Apple version would probably be around $2000 😅
the lg is fugly. People want a fruit branded monitor and look. Developers, sound engineers, Mac mini users, all have no need of a reference monitor, they just need a good monitor. I think if people bitch enough at Apple, they could be pressured into making one.
I agree but I don't think Apple will be pressured into making one since they have a strategy of pushing people into buying something more expensive than they were hoping for. Everybody likes the mac mini if it just had a GPU or a bit more expandability, but you have to buy a Mac Pro or iMac. Everybody likes the iMac if you could just add a display in the same design or have more expandability, but you have to buy the Mac Pro etc.
well they were pressured into dumping the trash can design and bringing Apple branded displays back, so pressure can work.imo it’s worth the bitching. Good things happen when you try.
Yea, you can always try of course, who knows. But they replaced the trashcan with a more expensive product. We'll see, I hope they make a cheaper one! Might take a while but I'd sure like to buy one together with a Mac Mini Pro!
I don't think they were. They let the 6,1 sit there for its intended lifespan and then brought out the refresh on schedule (i.e. 6 years later when they likely would have had a redesign of the 6,1 had it been everything everyone wanted). The only difference is they didn't update internals during that period as the thermals didn't support newer GPU architectures, so it stagnated. I don't see that as pressure affecting their decisions, I see normal product life cycle and PR spin when it was time for the redesign anyway.
The LG panel is only 8-bit, so not sure why you would want that. The Dell UP2715K uses a real 10-bit panel as well as the UP3218K.
You sure about that? I thought the LG 4K panels were 8 but the 5K were 10. I could be mistaken.
XDR display is in a different league over the Cinema Display given their respective entries at the same time. It's more custom as the metal chassis that doubles as a giant heat sink.
I know, but eventually things go down in price so Apple could pass that onto us so more can get this awesome one.
LG doesn’t make a 27” 5K 10-bit panel. They are all 8-bit (LM270QQ1 and LM270QQ2). Samsung makes a 10-bit panel (LTM270RL01), which is used in the UP2715K.

Allright it's 8-bit with A-RFC which is 10-bit. Check the official site. It's 99% DCI-P3 which is way higher than a lot of normal 10-bit monitors (like BenQ and Asus) so one way or another it produces 10-bit color.
I already have superior displays than the $10,000 XDR Display.
Buy what you need. Buy what you use.
I‘m a Gamer, and that’s it. I have an LG GL 850 27” 10-bit IPS 144Hz GSYNC Gaming Display
and a LG 55” 4K OLED TV with GSYNC and 4K@120Hz.
Both cost me $2,000 BOTH
I would not even want to use a 60Hz 6K Apple XDR Display.
You are so very clearly not in the intended market segment for such a display, which is fine.
There is a very big difference between being a consumer of media and the creator of media.
It'll be interesting when someone gets their hands on one and put a colorimeter on it.
You have no idea what the XDR is used for, it's not aimed at you and that's fine. Those of us with a use for this monitor don't see any of your gear as a suitable replacement.

We can agree to disagree. Many critical articles started to pile up about it. There was endless hand wringing going on in these forums and many people left the mac platform. Losing the professional market is pressure. But everyone is free to choose their own narrative until we get apple management under oath or something.
The xdr is too rich for my blood at the moment.
I’ve narrowed my selection down to either the lg27 5k, benq 27 4k, or Benq 32 4k.
I was going to go with the lg, but the connectivity/image retention/router horror stories are making me nervous. I guess these issues were more for previous models, but I’m still apprehensive.
