Just received my 21.5 i5 mac from the UK refurb store. Ordered Sunday & arrived yesterday but missed the delivery.

This is my first mac - so am having fun trying to figure out how to do different things - but am already impressed with some of the little touches

One slight issue though - I think my screen suffers from the yellow screen problem. I'm not sure I'd have noticed it if it wasn't through doing research through these forums. I've run the test & there is definately a colour change on one bottom corner on a plain white screen (however no noticable difference whilst on this page)

Normally I would immediately send back for a replacement - but on checking the spec it looks like I've ended up with an extra 4GB of RAM & a 2TB hard drive - so an extra £280 worth of stuff. So the questions are :-

- does the yellow tinge get any worse over time
- should i send the thing back potentially get a similar screen & lose the extras I've got in hand
- Could I take out the extra RAM & send the unit back (as I was sold a 4GB machine - but obviously received an 8GB machine)

Any answers or opinions gratefully received !

Keeping 4GB extra ram should be fair compensation for the supplied machine not being up to spec ;)

BTW if you happen to return and re-order remmeber to click through from Quidco - http://www.quidco.com/user/123570/32231/apple-store and earn 3-4% cashback on your purchase (I got £50 for my order from the refurb store - not a bad little bonus)

If you didn't notice until you came here I'd leave it alone and enjoy your new Mac with all it's extras.

Cheers,

Congrats! Nice score on the extras too! I got my mine about a month ago, but no extras. I have been very pleased with my purchase so far.

Off topic, but I've never created a thread that's gone more than a page, now I have one on page 6..... Yeah me :p

Just had to express my happiness... lol

I got a 27inch i3 3.2 off the refurb store and it was pristine, however, I sent it back because I want my new iMac to last more than a couple of years and the i3, whilst playing Portal and Left4Dead ok, wouldn't have been as long lasting as an i5 with the ATI 5750.

So, I sent the i3 back and replaced it with a 27inch i5 off the refurb store but this one wasn't so pristine. It had the yellowing of the screen which was quite noticeable, it also sparked when attaching powered USB devices which was worrying.

That got sent back and now I have another 27inch i5 with a fantastic screen except for what is either 2 dead pixels in a diagonal clump or some dust under the glass on the side of the screen. It's not noticeable unless I have a white or light coloured background. Also the drive grumbles a bit and the sparking issue is still there.
I'm assuming that the sparking issue is normal as it's a metal back but I'm not sure whether to return it again due to the dust/dead pixels and get another one that could be worse.

I've seen quite a few posts about it. It's either down to the back of the iMac being metal or more likely down to my houses shoddy electrics.

Well I returned iMac number 3 and have received iMac number 4. When I first turned it on, the screen was a horrible yellowish white. Really noticeable compared to number 3 but after a few hours of use, it's brightened up.

This morning the colour seems much better although there is still a slight yellowing at the bottom but it would be acceptable except that the fan is also buzzing away in the background. It sounds like it catching a wire or other component just slightly on each revolution.
They also forgot to include the iLife 11 DVD, which on its own isn't a deal breaker but still.

So this is going back too once my refund from iMac number 3 is processed. What a pain.

I'm really disappointed.

No it does not it shows the standard configuration - as advertised -as purchased, but not as delivered ie with the extra RAM & HD

I am sorry, you may wish to check this. I phoned Apple about upgrading it and the serial number shows the original shipping condition when purchased originally by the person who ordered it, the technician was able to tell me as such and knew I had 8GB in there where as the advertised page said 4GB.

I also tried with the genius bar and they said the same.

Feel free to try it, but they will probably charge you the return shipping charges and may refuse a refund.

The question is... do you feel lucky?

Are you able to say this on authority as in fact? (no messing here, genuinely interested how you are able to confirm this - I am sending my refurb back and having a new one delivered next week. new one has 4GB, refurb has 8GB)
