They're returns rather than broken and fixed machines I understand. And they are personally tested and inspected by a human, unlike the ones that roll off the production line.

Only risk I can see is if your machine has any scuffs from the previous owner.

IMHO something which has been used for months by various people and probably had a problem, it's going to have problems as soon as it can.
And risking this just to save few hundreds dollars (on a Computer that costs 2000 or something) isn't worth the risk.

Whats the risk if its fully covered by applecare? If it breaks... they'll replace it just like they would a brand new machine... the only difference is that while someone who bought a new one that broke and me will both be getting new refurbs... i spent $300 less and got a free ram upgrade? Where is the negative exactly????

The UK refurb store is looking decidedly empty at the moment.

The risk with the refurb store is really minimal. I've bought 4 refurbished Macs (two MacBooks and two Mac minis) and they have all been perfect. I've also bought 7 other Macs either new off the shelf (3 iMacs and a Mac mini) or BTO (2 iMacs and an iBook). Two of the off the shelf systems had problems right away. Based on my sample of 11 Macs, I'd say that refurbs are better than new!

If the refurb store allows u to customise the specs, that would be great.. Haha. Just a comment.

Now the refurb store has disappeared. There is no refurb option from the front page of the store.

Sorry, I was referring to the UK version.

Refurbs are still there:

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

I believe they move/remove the front page links from time to time. At the moment there only seems to be 3 Macs there so maybe that's why.

FWIW - another vote for the Refurb store. Bought 2 Macs from there and no problems at all. No bonus specs, but perfect condition in both cases and saved a couple of hundred.

With Christmas fast approaching they sell out quickly. Expect a bumper crop of refurbs come January. :)

For others that have gottn a refurb recently... Mine came with iLife '11 installed, but no iLife cd was included. Would it be on the "additional applications" cd? when i put that in, i only see things like timecapel etc...
But when I called applecare, they said since it came with it installed, its on there.... though I dont' know how to verify. Anyone else get a refurb with iLife '11 installed but DIDN'T get the seperate iLife '11 cd???

Did you go back and chase apple care for the DVD again? maybe worth calling the refurb store and asking for it?

If the refurb store has the 27'' i7 with the ATI 5750 graphics, I will sure take... Too bad there is no such thing so far..

That is what I purchased. The first time I saw one I hesitated and it was gone. About a week later another one showed up and I jumped on it.

Just ordered my first iMac from the refurb store. I have been waiting for months, firstly for the refresh and then for the refurbs to show up online. Finally, it has happened.

I'm in Tasmania, so I use the Australian store. When the 27 i7s listed in August, they started at $2890. Now after a few months they are only $2259 on the refub site. That's a pretty huge saving. It's actually cheaper than a second hand iMac off eBay.

I can't believe that people would ever buy one full price when the savings on the refurb store are so massive.

Haha. Lucky u! I dont have such luck. So far iMacs with i7 2.93GHz, ATI 5750 have not appear in the Singapore refurb store.

i have ordered my refurb 27' i5 imac today from apple store spain
and i have two doubts:
morless how much the imac will last to arrive?

i ordered it today, 1st december, apple said it can arrive between 3rd 7th december
do you think can arrive on friday?

thank you very much

i'm sory for my english

I ordered mine on Wednesday afternoon and received it today, Friday but I'm in the UK. No idea what the delivery times are like in Spain though.

Man, if I had not built a brand new PC in late July I would strongly consider dropping the cash for an iMac 27". My PC is great but the graphics card (I think) is faulty so I had to RMA it.. if that's not it then it's either motherboard, power supply or HDD. Oh the perks of owning a PC

Seriously though, I love the flexibility of PC's but at the same time I wish I didn't have to deal with the problems associated with troubleshooting. Sometimes it's just a pain in the arse.

My macbook air has me VERY tempted to buy a iMac though.. argh!!!

Mine arrived with an unexpected 8gb RAM and a 2 TB HD - Thanks for the early christmas present Apple :D

Me too! Got my 2.93 i7 with a 2tb drive! Thanks a lot Apple!

No dead pixels, no whine, no yellow tint. Just a perfect looking iMac.

Shame I didnt get any extra RAM, but I managed to snag 4gbs of eBay for $25. I'm having a good run of luck lately.
