Ordered my first imac from the refurb store on Friday. It was delivered to the house on Monday, but no one was in (my wife left early that day UPS arrived five minutes after she left). Finally got delivered yesterday (Tuesday), but my son got sick last night so we had to go to the hospital, he's better now thankfully. imac is still in the box, really looking forward to going home again tonight.

Choices choices . . .

For £1199 on the refurb store, there's a choice of a Refurbished iMac 27-inch 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 processor or a Refurbished iMac 21.5-inch 3.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor.
I think the smaller screen but faster more capable processor would be better value for money.
What do you think?

I ordered the refurb imac 27" core i7 2.93 with 4GB of ram and 1TB hard drive for £1549

it just came in on sunday and its perfect <3 could not find any faults, did a yellow tint test, deadpixel test etc nada! no faults at all! the only thing i could find was a little scratch on the stand on the back but its barely visible!

and to come with a even more a suprise when i booted up i was shocked to see it has 2TB hard drive installed with 8GB ram (2x4GB) installed, so it is actually double the spec of what i've ordered so i am extremely happy!

then i read the forums, hearing so many horror story but guess that's not the case for everyone only a small percentage from the huge client base apple must have! so if you've got the dough dont think twice :D

Finally got to setup my first imac last night. All I can say is WOW. It is absolutely perfect, no issues with the screen. Only real issue is the hard drive clicking, but from reading this forum, this is normal, something to do with the hard drive parking the heads. Looking forward to getting more hands on with it tonight.

did you order last week? if so thatw as the one i was going to buy!!!!
now there are no i7 2.9's left

wonder how long before the UK store gets more in.....

So should my refurb have come with iLife '11? I didn't get the disk an I believe I have the older version. Because I ordered it refurb, does that mean I'm stuck with what was originally installed on it (older version of iLife)??? I was under the impression I would have the newer version since I just got the computer 3 days ago....

UK refurb store is advertising that it comes with iLife 11 (right hand side of page), check your country store and then give Apple a call.

if it does not apple do an upgrade program where if you bought your Mac in the past few weeks you get a free upgrade, all you pay is postage for the CD.

Ordered a 27" iMac i7 and upgraded to 8GB RAM:

Should ship Monday. This one is brand new. Same version on Apple Store site was a refurb. Thought I'd give the new a shot.

Will report back once it's set up. Should work out a little better since I have to install my CS5 upgrade anyway.

Since I don't have an SSD..should I have the 1 TB HD partitioned?

I did not get a separate iLife '11 CD either, but '11 is installed on my iMac. Check which version of the programs you have. My iPhoto is 9.1, Garage Band 6.0. If you have those, you have iLife '11.

They should have given you the CD as well... Mine didn't come with a CD and the version currently installed is 9. I'm going to call today. Apparently, since I got the Mac after October, I can get the upgrade disc for only like.... $9. But I still think it should have come with it and will be arguing with apple over this extra cost. Its principle! but if they don't bend, i'll just be ordering the upgrade disk.

Understood. I did not go through the cd it came with, so it may be on there. Please let me know what you find out. I may order the disc too if it comes down to it.

Will teh upgrade disk be any use to you without the roiginal disk to upgrade from??
can you check the restore disk you got, maybe iLife 11 is on there somewhere?
i'm interested as I will be going refurb route if the model i'm after comes in stock.

Holy Moly, I did it.

Just ordered a 27 inch 3.2GHz i3 from the refurb store . . . £200 off is not to be sniffed at.
Hopefully it'll be all right and not scratched or marked.

Fingers crossed :)

My 27" was delivered in like new condition; not a mark on anything. I am very pleased with my purchase so far.

Ordered my 21.5" i3 on Thursday night and it arrived Monday afternoon.

It arrived in a plain white box with brand new keyboard, mouse, manual and DVDs (inc iLife 11) in a box marked with Apple Refurbished instead of Designed in California.

The actual machine was mint and spotless. It was covered with the usual plastic protective sheets. It is no different from an ordinary machine, but £200 cheaper.

Do you really want to save few hundreds? What kind of troubles are you risking to get buying a refurbished iMac?

In theory you should have less trouble than buying a new one, since the computer has been through Apple's refurb system, fixing any problems if there are any.

I've had my refurb imac for nearly a week now and have had no problems, it looks like new and came with iLife 11. Happy Days.

If the refurb store has the 27'' i7 with the ATI 5750 graphics, I will sure take... Too bad there is no such thing so far..

They're returns rather than broken and fixed machines I understand. And they are personally tested and inspected by a human, unlike the ones that roll off the production line.

Only risk I can see is if your machine has any scuffs from the previous owner.

My refurb is in perfect condition and after the experience i've had so far, i will only buy refurb from now on... its almost worth it just to have the extra scrutiny they give these machines... PLUS you save $300. AND you get a chance for bonus ram or a bigger hardrive. Since mine came with 8 Gigs instead of 4, i've really saved a lot more than just the $300.

For others that have gottn a refurb recently... Mine came with iLife '11 installed, but no iLife cd was included. Would it be on the "additional applications" cd? when i put that in, i only see things like timecapel etc...
But when I called applecare, they said since it came with it installed, its on there.... though I dont' know how to verify. Anyone else get a refurb with iLife '11 installed but DIDN'T get the seperate iLife '11 cd???

Mine came with it installed and on a DVD with a little manual.

The DVD had a label on saying "CPU drop-in DVD".

You need to ask them to send you the proper DVD.
