Sorry to get back on topic :D

I'm trying to decide between the Late 2010 i5 2.8 v's the Early 2010 i7 2.8 (both same price on the refurb store)

Am I right understanding that even with only 512mb video RAM the Early 2010 i7 2.8 is the better machine overall to get?

Are there any up/down sides to reliability between early and late models? also what difference would/does the graphics card make (if any).

Thanks

That machine is a beast. The new model is not much faster and you saved around five hundred dollars if not more.

Only thing, you could have bought that model "new' not refurbished. Amazon is selling it for 1699 new, as is mac connection.

Still a good deal. As refurbished is usually as good as new.

I've been buying refurbished tools, puters...etc etc for quite a while now. I have a feeling that refurbished in a realllll lot of cases is almost better than new being they're gone over with an even finer toothed comb...
doesn't much matter being they both have the same warranty ...although...like I said b/4..the Apple rep gave me the three year Apple Care for $120 vs $129 + $10 shipping from amazon....plus Apple gave me an additional $88 off the iMac. Reckon they try'n stay competitive.

You're not alone wondering about that. I was hoping that being a refurb, my iMac would already be proved not to have the monitor whine issue or yellow tint issue and, indeed, that has been the case.

Don't know if it was an accident, of course, and there's no way to know if my refurb went back to Apple because of a known iMac issue. All I know is that it has been great so far.

A lot has to do with heat when it comes to the yellow issue. If you can make your iMac open to air and not closed in it helps keep the machine a bit cooler. I have a c2d 3.06 27inch works well since feb 2009

Sorry if my post sounded pompous. That wasn't my intent.

I just don't understand why any man would write a post read by others stating that he now has permission from the wife to buy a pc.

To each his own I guess.

Picture this. You pool your finances with your spouse. Your spouse decides to grab $1500 out of your shared account for a new dress, shoes and a purse. That would not bother you at all? Wouldn't you like to be consulted for a purchase like that? It's a courtesy thing if nothing else.
Dump the machismo. Husband+Wife=TEAM.

lol nice post ... however a good set of boobs will run you at least $4,000 with warranty.

Haha they have warranty?? Thats crazy.
Do u pay for size or quality or what ?

Yup ... lol ... any good Surgeon will warranty them. You really do not see the full results until after they heal and complications can happen (uneven etc. etc.)

my Ex paid $5,000 and they turned out very realistic ... you get what you pay for I guess.

Actually I have no problem with the wife buying what she wants. A new dress, shoes, and a purse isn't a big deal at all.

Yes we are a team, but we also have the right to do some things on our own without having to ask permission. I guess it all comes down to what is considered a " significant" purchase. I don't see the purchase of a $2000 computer to be significant.

After 20 years it works out just fine for the both of us. I couldn't imagine telling my wife she couldn't spend $1500 on clothes ..

Cool beans then. You are above many here in financial security and comfort. No need to pass judgment on those not in a similar situation.

It actually has nothing at all to do with money. It has to do with one party in a marriage giving the other party permission to buy something.

Who made that person granting permission the boss? I am certainly not the boss of my wife, nor is she of me.

Sorry again if I offended anyone here.

A $2,000 purchase and it has "nothing at all to do with money"...????

Anyhow.... My refurb i7 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so even this guy can't tear me down from the cloud I'm floating on :)

be careful with refurb store

I had a faulty 24 iMac that was very troublesome and apple replaced it under apple care ( it was 18 months old ) for a 27 i7 model happy boy here :D

out of curiosity I looked in the refurb section about 4 weeks after the replacement happened guess what I found a 24 inch iMac for sale at a good discount sure the HDD was bigger it had a 1tb my old one had a 640gb one ( I assume it was replaced for data protection ) all the rest of the spec matched.

If these are as we have been told, that they are returned/failed in manufacturing may not be the whole story

question to ponder how come a 24 iMac appears after they have been out of production for over a year ?

Sorry if what I said offended you. Enjoy the new Mac.

I'm in the market for a new iMac and was thinking of getting one from the refurb store.
What's the likelihood of getting one that's been returned due to stuck / dead pixels, is it higher from the refurb store?

My i7 just came in!!! and its PERFECT! No yellowing, no grey bands, no dead pixels, no loud HD. The only slight issue is a tiny bit of light bleed in the bottom right, but its nothing thats going to bother me. Also, because I ordered from the refurb store, i got lucky and got one with an extra 4 Gigs of ram for free :). SOOOO happy!!!

Go refurb unless you can afford otherwise. Mostly a preference of saving or spending more.

Both past white/black 13" Macbooks and my current 15" Macbook Pro have been from the refurb store, and I've had no problems (except a motherboard replacement on the black Macbook). No dead pixels, minimal backlight bleed, great performance (CS5, Steam gaming, etc.). Planning on purchasing a 21.5" Core i3 iMac from the refurb store next week. Not worried at all.
