Aperture's soul may be revived in the form of Pixelmator since the purchase 👀
Aperture soul is alive! Just look at Nitro and RAW Power from https://www.gentlemencoders.com/

"Gentlemen Coders was founded in 2016 by Nik Bhatt, an 18 year veteran of Apple. His roles in the Photo Apps group included Senior Director of Engineering and Chief Technical Officer. Among other roles, he led the Aperture, iPhoto, RAW Camera and Core Image engineering teams, as well as the imaging team for the Mac version of Photos.
Mr. Bhatt holds over 55 patents in a wide range of disciplines including image processing, audio processing, geotagging, wireless networking, and user interface design."

Very pleased to see that with this new major update of FCPX, now FCP11, the Mac version hasn’t shifted to a subscription model and remains available as a one time purchase, and hopefully the student pack of the three Pro Apps at $200 is still available.

Also happy to see that there is still a 90 day demo on the website…

Love to see Apple respecting past buyers and releasing all these features in a free update.
Indeed.

Meh. No transcript based editing? The doesn't deserve an 11.
You mean, telling the app what you want done and it does it by itself?
Video editing? Really? You expect/want/require (because of the name) Apple to do this while not even being able to release Apple Intelligence? You must be sooo disappointed.

It looks like magnetic mask does work on Intel Macs, just that it will be faster on M series Macs. Since that is the only feature I really care about, I look forward to trying it on my 2019 MacBook Pro on the weekend.

Nobody wants just regular television-style captions. We want titles you can customize the font, color, size, & animation.

All they ever do is throw us scraps once a year and then people get mad when you complain that it’s an incremental 1% change.

Do you know plugins?

No they literally mean text based editing after you transcribe the audio. You can cut parts off the video by editing the transcription. Easiest way to remove umms and ahhs.

Just an FYI - FCP XI, Motion, Compressor and Logic Pro 11.1 all require Sonoma 14.7 or later or Sequoia (for certain features). This still leaves a lot of supported Macs on the list, but if you're driving something on the older side (like a 2015 MacBook Pro you cannot quite bring yourself to let go of ;), you're going to be out of luck. Whether this drives some upgrades sales remains to be seen, but the current Mac lineup is pretty darn good, minus the lack of an M4-based Studio and Mac Pro.

For anyone looking for text-based editing, I've figured out a workaround, for now at least. If you blade clips underneath captions, you can use the timeline index to navigate based on text. Press C to select the clip under the selected caption.

Loads more details about all the new features, and a script for CommandPost to cut around captions here:

Everything only for M Chips... like the auto caption is not possible on my 27 inch intel iMac that has not been replaced and cost 4.5k€...
The biggest feature, Magnetic Mask, works and performs well on Intel Macs. Auto caption uses the large language model AI that needs the AI processor found in Apple Silicon.

Unfortunately it is true. They killed Aperture and failed to deliver their promise of transferring all the features to Photos app. While I don’t mind editing options it offers, they are VERY basic
Just still Mind blowing to me...That once upon a time I was able to Get Aperture Support from none other than Tim Cook himself, via E-mail after I had exhausted all regular channels.. Got a call back from his Office in two days and after an initial Conversation or two was talking to someone within in the Aperture Group! They sent me some software and stayed on the phone as I installed it and my issue went away!

So from that kinda level of Support to complete abandonment.....UGH.

How about an audio mixer ? like the roles based audio mixer Apple got a patent on but never brought out ???? rather than tracks apply to audio clips tagged with that role.

the rest is catch up to everyone else. its nice, if its your NLE ok cool, but nothing that makes FCP 11 much different. This could have been 10.9 for what it delivers so far.
That’s what Logic Pro is for… 😉

The spatial editor is just brilliant. Loads of viewing options including Anaglyphic (red and Green glasses) which means you can select the bits that are most 3D wow, the close up clips essentially.

Its taken a while but based on the outcome I might just go get me some Vision Pro goggles.
Absolutely but I really wish they would have built in 'live preview' with the AVP, kind of wild it took this long and that naturally didn't make it in.
