What happened to Rapid Security Responses? Theoretically it would be the preferred way to deliver security updates...
IMHO thats restricted to minor changes like a slightly different Safari patch, or something that doesn't require much in the way of installation/update. Yes Rapid Security Responses usually required a reboot.

I assume most users haven't updated to 17 yet, so it would be more effective to get them immediately to 17.0.1 in one go, instead of going through two separate update processes.
Also Apple is manufacturing, imaging and shipping iPhones in massive quantities right now. Better to do a full update for this and just start putting that on the new phones immediately, rather than having an older version + a security update.

So, NOW is it safe to install iOS 17?

I would recommend waiting until at least December. With no less than 10 of the promised new features being delayed for the coming months, it’s clear that Apple released a half-baked software that actually wasn’t ready for a public release yet.

iOS 17 improvements and changes are a lot more then the dozen or so changes still outstanding.

See this PDF for everything to be implemented.

Do not install these updates if you have new devices coming tomorrow unless you want to deal with a headache restoring backups.

Because the devices will have an older version and need to be updated before the restore can happen. Now some people are claiming the update will happen automatically but lets not forget that everyone is getting devices tomorrow and the update servers will be completely hammered. Reguardless, it will be a easier experience to do the restore first then update devices.

oops!

It still hasn’t fixed the mail app search function. when search for a particular email the content is missing. So frustrating. Anyone know how to fix this?

This rollout is a bit of a mess.

iPhone 14 Pro Max (with the update claiming it’s only for the iPhone 15 series – so why is it being offered?)...

... and the iPad mini 6th gen with the wrong OS icon:

Software quality in the toilet… they should release when ready. Sticking to a super rigid schedule and releasing software that requires an update days later is very telling.
Given the ETA of iPhone 15 deliveries, and the separate ETA of IOS 17 going public, what usually happens is the iPhone 15 will come with a pre-iOS 17 build they chosen that is solid enough to use before it gets updated OTA the latest OS release in consumers hands. You can never predict both ETA's exactly, just a best attempt by Apple.
