Apple today released iOS 17.0.1 and iPadOS 17.0.1 updates for the iPhone and the iPad, adding bug fixes to the new software. The iOS 17.0.1 and iPadOS 17.0.1 updates come just a few days after Apple launched iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.

The software, which is build 21A340, can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update. There is a separate iOS 17.0.2 update (build 21A350) that will be available for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models.

According to Apple's release notes for the iPhone, the update provides bug fixes and important security updates for all eligible devices.

Apple's security support document confirms that the update addresses several security vulnerabilities that may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS before iOS 16.7.

Apple has also released iOS 16.7 (build 20H19) for those who have not yet updated to iOS 17, or those who are unable to update.

So, the new vulnerability was overlooked (a) when the 16.6.1 update was prepared, or (b) has 16.6.1 been hacked already resulting in a new vulnerability possibly exploited in the wild? This ever happened before: X.01 is the most current on my new iPad, X.02 on my new iPhone?? Strange …

I just do automatic update on all my stuff. Seems a bit more safer for the last few years now Doing this method. the last time my iPhone 14 pro max took over 2 weeks before it finally updated on its own.

Every time Apple releases any new iOS, betas or patches, queue eight pages of gripes, whines, or sarcastic quips. Why do any of ya’ll own iPhones in the first place if you’re in such misery? I look forward to updates myself, and I know of no other electronics product that doesn’t require a firmware update right after I open the package. 🙄

Yeah, you wouldn't want to break all those security exploits that work on your devices now.
Apple still releases security patches for 15. I worry about all the things they break making them “better”.

What model do you have? I updated my air 3 last week, but almost entirely for Logic Pro. I debated on it for a long while and may be able to help with your decision lol. (I loved 15)
I’m on a 13 Pro and a 11” iPad Pro 3rd gen.

This seems very rushed. The security update specifies its for iPhone 15/15 Pro models but is sent to my 13 Pro Max and 12 iPhones. I know that its not just for those phone models, but its strange they would specify them specifically.
It was probably not ready for the iOS 17.0 production release, so it wasn't rushed as much as it was delayed.

The different version numbers between devices is just weird… they should patch out a couple more bugs while they’re at it and get the versions for both phones up to iOS 17.0.3!!

I was discussing the text explaining it. There is no reason why a trillion dollar company should state a new update is only for new phones, when it is being offered for existing ones.

I wonder if this fixes whatever is causing my phone to make multiple butt-dials a day. Since upgrading to iOS 17 it’s been nonstop. No idea what’s causing it. I did notice at the end of a phone call often if the other person hangs up quickly by the time my finger touches the ‘end’ call button it switches to my contact list. So instead of ending a call I end up initiating another call.

I’m not sure that’s true now that 17 has been released. There’s no matching update here, even though Big Sur got a Safari update for this.
True. We have no way of knowing because Apple won’t tell us. That said, the latest release isn’t always the most secure. ”Updates” have introduced new holes or reopened old ones in the past.

That’s just iOS. I have one poor buddy get an unintended call about twice a month because his name is in my favorites list right about where the hang-up button is. iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 15.
