After being stupidly disappointed with ANC since launch, I genuinely feel they've final sorted out the issues I'd been personally having. That was with the drifting in and out of ANC especially in the left ear. I quite often sit in our sitting room with my wife watching some trash on TV. I can hardly hear anything and zero drifting after 45 minutes.
Is this the issue where you'll be using the airpods and ANC will get a little weaker in the left ear so you start hearing ambient sounds a bit only in the left ear? And the way to fix it is to remove and replace the Airpod in your ear?

This would especially happen during meetings. It would feel as if the seal on my left ear was coming loose, but it wasn't that because adjusting the fit wouldn't fix it, only a complete removal and putting it back in.

If they fixed this I'm going to be so happy as it is literally the only problem I have with my AirPods Pro.

I was on the beta with my APP2 and noice cancellation seems stronger on this new public version.

Yes exactly that. It's been an issue since day one with none of the firmware updates even addressing it, never mind reducing it. Over one hour sitting with no audio from any device, just EarPods in sat in the room with the TV on. ANC is definitely tighter with zero drifting in and out.

*Edit. I run a small business with a pneumatic machine. The cycle of the machine had a wide range of frequencies but there is one which is particularly annoying which ANC doesn't seem to kill, in fact it highlights it. I've just tried the machine and it is definitely, by a long chalk, much improved.

Apple today released new firmware update for both the Lightning and USB-C versions of the AirPods Pro 2. The new firmware is version 6F7, up from the 6B34 firmware released in November.

Apple does not provide details on what features might be included in the refreshed firmware beyond "bug fixes and other improvements," so it is unclear what's new in the update.

Apple does not give customers instructions on how to upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iOS device or Mac should force the update.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we learn more about what's new in the firmware release, we'll update this article.

Apple has released an update to <insert device / software here>. Apple does not tell anyone what's in the update [...] Aren't release notes standard?

FWIW technically they have release notes (https://support.apple.com/en-us/106340), it's just that most of the time the entire release note is "Bug fixes and other improvements" (which, to be fair, other vendors often do too to roll up minor fixes into one note). Once in a while it's more, like:

Version 6A300/6A301 release notes

When used with iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, AirPods firmware update 6A300/6A301 takes the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) experience to the next level with Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Personalized Volume. This update also adds convenience and control on calls with press to mute and unmute for AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation), and AirPods Max, as well as significant improvements to the Automatic Switching experience for all available AirPods across Apple devices with the latest software updates.

or tell people how to update.
While that irritates me a bit too it also could be looked at as "we've abstracted it completely away from our users, the bulk of whom neither care nor want to care, it just happens transparently and they dont need to think about it at all" - which I would suspect the majority of consumers actually prefer

Mine updated while in the case in my pocket. Hopefully this fixes some of the connectivity issues and random static I have when waking up my phone playing music from the Lock Screen. Always stutters…
Yes, hopefully!

An issue I've had with the previous firmware is this: My AirPods Pro are connected to my Watch and playing a podcast from the Watch. If I use the Pause/Resume control on the AirPods while my phone (which also can connect to AirPods Pro), when I press Resume on the AirPods, it'll play something from the phone instead of resume whatever it was playing from my Apple Watch Ultra. It's very annoying.

Funny. I’ve always used case open although Apple says that won’t work. Been connected with case open for about 30 minutes. Nothing yet.

6F7 not 6BF7 for me.
For me, it’s never been consistent. The best thing that generally works for me is to connect it by cable to a Mac, but even that isn’t 100% reliable, maybe 90%. The other methods are hit or miss. I’ve had cases where nothing ever worked and my AirPods never updated. But then they’d update easily to the next one. Go figure. I think my AirPods Max is most guilty of that last one.

At least they’re not Google release notes. I think almost every release note I’ve ever read from them looks like this:

”We drank too much coffee after warping the space time continuum.”

Does anyone else have the issue where the sound will pan back and forth sometimes? Like the singer will drift around until I take them out and put them back in. It’s not the song because if I start the song over after, the singer stays centered.

Maybe this update will fix that.

Firmware updates drop for me in the middle of the night (Japan time) and my APP2 happened to be charging overnight, right next to my iPhone. When I woke up and checked, they hadn't updated. 🙄

What did work for me was opening the case with AirPods still inside, checking the version on my iPhone, then putting both on the charger (leaving the case open). After about five minutes I closed the lid, and ten minutes later when I checked, they were updated. I dunno, YMMV - but that's what worked for me.

Plugged mine in to the charger, left the case open for 5 minutes. Closed the case and then when I opened them again it had updated. That's how I always do it and it always updates that way every time.
