Nice having the i7 monkey off my back :)

This.

It was exactly how I felt when I finally managed to score one from the refurb store. When it wasn't snatched out of my cart and I actually had a purchase confirmation, I couldn't believe it.

After waiting so long for the update, the Mac Mini Decision seemed all consuming--researching, hunting for reviews and benchmarks and testing machines. When it was finally over, it was a relief. ;)

But it was worth it. I ended up with a model I wasn't even considering at first and it turned out to be a great little machine. :)

FINALLY...tried 1/2 hour ago, added a 2002 i7 to my cart but couldn't check out. Been refreshing every few minutes and another one just popped up. Added it to my cart and was able to check out!

When the Apple store has the refurbished units online, what does a base server cost? The server units in 2012 still had dual drives, correct? That is the reason I'd prefer a server.

I have a 2011 (since 2011), but it sounds like these 2012 are more desirable.

Pretty epic. Hope this deters the scalpers on Ebay and those truly interested in owning the machines were able to get one...

Just missed the model I wanted. Was "fighting" someone for it trying to add it to my cart. Hopefully there will be another round...preferably after I get paid next week ;)

I scored a 2.3, but had to go with 8GB RAM to get it done. The stuff just goes so quick, and I had 3 Apple gift cards to enter!

I impulsively got the 1TB Fusion, but having a case of buyer's remorse and think I'm going to stick with the 2.3 i7 base unit and the external 256 SSD I purchased. I'd like one of you guys on the board to have a shot at it, so if anybody would like to PM me before I hit "cancel," there's a great chance it will be yours...

This is becoming a sport... Mac Mini server Dual 1TB 2.3 i7, No.4 in the bag!!!

Ok time to stop. ;)

I finally got the i7 quad core Mac Mini late 2012 with the 1TB Fusion Drive today that I was trying so hard to get. I've still got the previously purchased unopened i7 quad core mac Mini 2012 1TB HD from a month ago that will now go to eBay at a reasonable price.

Got an i7 2.3 quad, 4GB RAM and 2 x 1TB HD.

How fast is the HD going to be in a software RAID 0 config vs. an SSD or fusion drive?

How do the Fusion Drives compare to SSD? I am spoiled with SSD and imagined a Fusion Drive would be a step down. But should I consider if that is all I can get my hands on?

I see a few sellers on eBay that say they professionally upgraded the Mac Mini with ram and their own Fusion type setup and are selling them as new. And they claim the 1-year Apple Warranty is still intact.

Technically you can upgrade your Mini with warranty intact. But, if Apple ever deems the damage is related to your upgrades in any way, you're not covered.

I don't think you can. You know what they say...."One Mac Mini 2012 is too many, four (or more) are not enough."
It's off to Mac Mini 2012 Anonymous for you Mr..... :)

I keep thinking on pulling the trigger on a second one for myself, but I just cannot find where I would use it. So I just watch them dissapear from the refurb site.

If someone that got 4GB RAM is interested in 8GB for a few bucks shoot me a PM. Mine will be immediately upgraded to 16GB.

Wait until you get your mac before dealing. I ordered a i7 quad with a 8GB of RAM and received one with 16GB of RAM.

I don't want to start a new thread so I figured I would ask in this one. If this is wrong, let me know and I'll delete this post.

I planned on getting a brand-new Mac Mini, the mid level model with the SSD upgrade.

I am just curious why it seems that most people are looking for the 2012 model? Is it better than the new one?

It's because the 2012 models have user-upgradeable RAM slots. Which means if you get the base 4GB model, you can upgrade to 16GB easily. If you get the 2014 model you won't be able to upgrade the RAM yourself. You'll have to get a model that you think you'll need. If you're buying a model that has 16GB RAM already then this would be moot point. But if you are not, then you'll have to think long term/down the line whether you'll never need 16GB of RAM and plan for that now.

Oh, almost almost that the quad-core i7 are available in the 2012 models while in the 2014 models they are all dual-core. There are single core and multi core performance comparison between the two generations but the difference isn't anything major. That's why people are opting for the 2012 models because you can get one cheaper, is upgradeable and performance wise is pretty much the same.
