doesn't the store go down pretty routinely for maintenance? Why was everyone so worked up about this?

if you go to the apple homepage and then click the store tab its still down..at least in the US

It's a new environmental policy in the EU..Certain chemicals used in the Airport,eMac etc.. can't be sold anymore..

Yes they are. They are using 5000-series Xeons, and 5000-series is the Woodcrest that was just announced today. Those Dells were used for benchmarking in intel.com where they talk of the new Xeons. Also, those Dells are using FB-DIMM memory, something that Woodcrest uses.

Something is definately up. They added a tab to the top called Music and all of a sudden it is gone. i think a new iPod or something to do with it is coming tomoroow or very soon.
