Haha, yes I also tried to Google for answers, to no avail ;)

I've ordered a Mac mini earlier this year. When I received the shipping notice, it was supposed to be delivered 8 days later (on a Friday).

p.s. on that day nothing arrived though and I had to wait for 2 more weeks.

Mine has Shipped but there's a 'but'. 😭

Since it was ordered along with a BTO 14" MacBook Pro, I have to wait 2 weeks more because the shipments have to be merged in transit, it says "Arrives Thu Jul 28".

This means I also can't track it I suppose until the merge happens. Oh well, been waiting 2 and a half months, what's another two weeks... will be 3 months almost from order to delivery if it comes on the 28th.

I cancelled my order. After much mulling and thinking I realized I didn't want to spend $1500 just yet and that I'm just going to use my iMac17,1 for another year or so at the desk and my M1 Macbook Pro on the go.

Hopefully better display options come down the pipe in the next year or so. I really want to see some high quality, non-Apple 5K displays with multiple inputs and better compatibility. If nothing comes around I'll end up buying the studio display sometime next year, and by then all the bugs will be worked out.

Hopefully my cancellation gets one of you your display a day sooner. :)

I cancelled mine about 2 weeks ago due to thinking I was about to move cross country, and my delivery was July 8-22. Offer fell through and I'm regretting my choices at the moment. 🥲

I considered giving up entirely a bit prior to cancelling my order due to those circumstances but I went and saw it in the store again. The panel is just so pretty. I do think it wouldn't be as effective if I'd had an iMac before. 5K panels are practically brand new to my eyes.

When I first got my 5K iMac (2015 or so) I probably spent two weeks just staring in awe. I'd never seen such a beautiful display before. Photos actually looked like photos, rather than just photos on a screen.

Yeah, in your case it seems like it's absolutely worth it. A lot of my motivation was wanting to use this Macbook Pro work bought me as a desktop when I'm home because it's so much faster than the now older 5K iMac. But I realized the difference isn't that big and I can always run anything that needs raw compute power on the laptop.

Another thing I keep realizing is that it's damn nice to have a dedicated desktop machine rather than using a laptop as such. Having to dock and undock all the time will likely get really annoying. Maybe I'll wait for an M2 iMac and get that to upgrade when the time comes.

That is unfortinate. I wonder, did yours get delayed or pushed out. Mine took about 8 weeks as I ordered in March and it's a VESA model since I want to use a standalone display for height adjustment, but not pay $400 extra for that privilage.

I have my display for over a month and it's worth it given how sharp and good the image quality. People say 4K is better since it's cheaper and 2K scaling on a 4K 27" display looks okay. Once you experience 2K on a 5K display with perfect 2K scaling, not the mess with a 27" 4K display, 4K will look like trash as it's not designed for macOS since it expects 2X scaling. I would get another to replace my 2K LG display from 2014, but they are hard to get. I can't believe that the supply of Studio Displays have not improved at all, although 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro lead times improved a bit. Maybe next year, and probably for my Mac Studio in my home office so I can have 2 27" displays for that setup as well.

Of course, you can convert your 5K iMac to a display itself as people done it in the past gutting the internals and putting a display control board that makes it work with DisplayPort.

IMO the Studio Display seems like an incomplete rush job*. (I have one on order anyway, because I really want the 5k screen)

But I'm still surprised and disappointed the Studio Display doesn't have Face ID. Or a great camera. Or a variety of other features.

* Given the size of the monitor and the powerful processor, it's not hard to imagine Apple had bigger plans for the monitor but decided to scrap them for one reason or another (e.g. the pandemic's chip shortage) just so they could provide *something* to complement the Mac Studio.

If so, maybe they'll update the monitor sooner than later. Normally I would bet on them waiting at least 2 years before a refresh, if not longer, so as not to disappoint early adopters. But this just seems a bit too stripped down and incomplete.

To be honest I'd settle for them bringing back the 27" iMac. It was a hell of a nice machine and I fully intended to upgrade to an Apple Silicon based one if it had come out.

Instead we got an awkward solution that actually cost MORE than a 27" iMac typically did for even a Mac Mini + Studio Display.

This seems basically impossible to dispute. It's an incredibly odd product... I would love to have been a fly on the wall while the final production choices were made. It was probably during mid-late 2021 when things were even worse...

I would wait for a better one but it'll probably be serval years before that happens and I'd like an upgrade roughly now. Maybe I'll win the lottery and be able to buy a XDR instead, lamo. I'm mostly annoyed with the refresh rate over anything else tbh, OLED/Mini LED would have been very nice but LCD still looks alright for monitors to my eyes. I do think that 90+hrz is going to be industry standard long before whatever unit I end up with ceases to function though.

Everything about the design of this product suggests it was going to be the new Apple Silicon 27" iMac, then suddenly they changed their mind. There's enough cooling and internal space for a full-fledged computer.

My suspicion is they realized they wouldn't be able to make enough to meet demand with the chip shortage, so they split production into the display (which would be constrained as we can see) and the Mac Studio.

So this is the order thread... wouldn't it be better to move your discussion about the display to another thread? Probably there are 100 threads already about it.

I am using my Apple Studio Display since May 25th and I still absolutely in love with this display.

Today, I got a message saying my window for this order got moved up to Aug 17 - Aug 24. Still Processing

Hooray! That's promising. I ordered mine May 29th and its delivery window (July 29 - August 12) hasn't budged a single day since. But maybe they're starting to catch up on backorders? Here's hoping!

My current (very old) monitor may not make it to August! :)

P.S. Thank you for sharing the positive update!

Placed my order for Standard Glass/VESA on 5 July. Original delivery was 18-31 August (6-8 weeks). Has been bumped up twice to 11-18 August (5-6 + weeks) and now 9-16 August (5-6 weeks).

Happy I won't have to wait until the end of August!

I just canceled my Apple Store order because I got the ASD standard Vesa from Adorama. Ordered it 7/17, will arrive tomorrow. For your information, if you want to get it early.

Hmmm. This is very tempting. My delivery window is still July 29 to August 12. Hasn't budged a single day since I placed the order on 5/29.

But it would be just my luck, I'd either end up with 2 monitors or zero monitors, lol. (i.e. if I cancelled the Apple order first, Adorama would sell out moments before I placed the order. Or if I ordered from Adorama first, then I'd discover that the Apple order was now set for delivery and could no loner be cancelled)

Eh. I suppose I've already waited this long, might as well stick it out until it arrives.

(It's going to arrive after August 12th, isn't it?) 😄

In your situation I would probably do the same. I had 2 ASD on order with apple the first one was set for 8/2-8/16 delivery, and the second was set for 8/16 - 8/30 delivery. So I took a shot in the dark last Wednesday and ordered one on Adorama, to my suprise I noticed that it was preparing to ship on Sunday, so I bought another on 7/17. the first Adorama order was delivered on Tuesday with overnight shipping, and the second one is being delivered today. Once I received the first order, I canceled the last Apple order, and once I receive the second Adorama order I will cancel the 1st Apple order. Last I checked Adorama still had stock. And the shipping processed within 2 business days. So theoretically, if you ordered today, you very well may have your ASD by Friday.... then you could cancel your apple order. But I completely understand your concern for pause.

Ordered May 9th - arrived July 20th which translates to roughly 10 weeks of waiting time
