First impressions:
  • Lovely to look at. Something I missed from day one of my Dell P2715Q.
  • Sturdy, no wobble or anything. I had the Dell on an monitorarm and it was shaky all the time. Especially when moving the standing desk up and down.
  • I love glossy, all edge to edge glass, screens. Something I missed from my Dell too. I know that people have different opinions about this. The colors really pop.
  • I like the thicker bezels, yes you read correctly, I prefer to have a black bezels all around that are big and not thin. It adds a great contrast and the picture looks more immersive. In comparison, I use the Huawei MateView with very thin bezels at my second Homeoffice and I prefer the bezels of the Studio Display.
  • Contrast, Brightness (too bright actually) and Colors are just great for my use case. I have it connected to a M1 Max with XDR screen.
  • 5K over 4K is a huge plus. One of the reasons why I got this Display anyway.
  • Speakers are great and more than good for YouTube, video calls etc... although I'm continuing using my Bowers & Wilkins MM-1. I like how the Studio Display and the external speakers on my desk matches in terms of design.
  • Webcam is very bad. I can't imagine that a software fix will make it look good.
  • I have a non hight adjustable stand on the display and continue using my little shelf which I used before.
  • Best of all features and this is a major one: No more connection issues. No matter which non-Apple display I connected to my MacBooks, I always had issues to get the external display to turn on. The workflow in most cases was to turn off the monitor from standby, open the MacBook lid, turn on the monitor and then close the lid again to get it working. No more of that annoying thing! I use my setup in clamshell mode only.
Note: I like to have everything wired and also use ethernet and no WiFi at home. Just in case you mention that the cables here look messy. :)

Great review. And gorgeous looking desk! I love it.

But I can't. I just put my ear next to the top vent holes and couldn't hear anything. My home should be rather quiet with very basic level of ambient noise. But I can feel air blowing out of the vent holes by my hand.
My display is whisper quiet with no buzzing. If I put my ear to the top vent holes and listen very very hard I still can’t hear the fans but I can feel the air blowing out.

I can't wait for my display to come. My Mac Studio coming this week but unfortunately my display not coming here until 1 month later! Lucky I do have spare work Dell monitor I use for working at home with work laptop but it going be pain move monitor upstairs and downstairs twice week (start of work 1st working day in week and last working day in same week). Plus monitor isn't great and I am spoiled by Mac display even I never used 5K display before (my current Mac is iMac retina before 4K was out). Even that iMac is old still miles better than my work monitor.

Thanks for that, and extra points for the keyboard :)

Office refurb time, Mac Studio hidden under the desk, speaker cables now hidden.
Agree re the speakers - they are more than "good enough" and if I didnt already have the Ruark's I'd be happy with the output from the display (and it would be even more minimal desk space...)

Ordered an ASD yesterday, will be delivered tomorrow. Going back from 32” to 27”. Hope I will like it. :)
I wish ASDs VESA were available from Best Buy. I would have ordered a pair right away. My pair ordered from Apple won’t be delivered until end of May :(

32->27??? Ouch.

Why Ouch? I have a pair of LG 32UN880-B UltraFine with my Mac Studio currently and after comparing it with the ASD I have ZERO remorse going down to 27" from 32". There is more than size when purchasing a display. If you are used to 5K Retina, there is no 4K display in the whole world that could look better than my recently sold iMac 5K and that's why I'm happily trading size for picture quality.

It depends. If it‘s from the 32“ 6K XDR then yes, it’s an ouch, otherwise it’s an upgrade over all the 4K screens larger than 32“.
No. My 32” is an AOC U32U1, 4K with my resolution at 109ppi. I am a copywriter, so crispy text is important to me.

I have never owned the 6K Pro Display XDR. I have been using an iMac 27” before for years. So let’s see what I think of it.

Then this, the ASD, is for you.
Happy to read your thoughts once you have it.

Its great isn't it? I can't remember how many years I've been using non-Apple displays and been frustrated by wake-from-sleep issues and resolution issues.

Does anyone know if the Logitech 4K Magnetic Webcam will fit the ASD? I'm assuming so, but curious if anyone has tried it. Also would like to know if it can be angled down quite a bit. I think the ASD webcam is angled too high.

I have the Logitech 4K cam (apple version)... why would it not "fit"? It's magnetic, it can just sit on the top, and you could angle it downwards.

There's 2 models. One with a mechanical clip/rest style vs the magnetic. I think they're referring to the mechanical clip.

I think the OP is asking about the one designed specifically for the Apple Pro XDR Display which is magnetic. I’m guessing it should work with the ASD as both displays have the same aluminum body.

Aluminum is not magnetic.
I know aluminum it’s not magnetic but there should be metal under the aluminum body on the Pro XDR Display and that’s why the Logi cam stays in place. Of course, it would work with the ASD only if there is metal right at the top middle point of the frame like in the Pro XDR Display.

I meant to say, feedback from others has been that while using the Studio Display mics for conference calls, that quality hasn't been great and its been sounding like I've been using the speaker function of something rather than headphones (which I guess I am). On the flip side, if I use my MBP 16" mics, they think they sound brilliant.

I wonder if this is because I'm a bit further away from the screen than I naturally am when I use my MBP.
