It looks typical of a dev kit indeed.
If real, what we see is:
-a very early implementation of the OS, just a windowed version of the iPhone OS, the keyboard not implemented yet (hence the apps calling the iPhone keyboard widget instead). Cool desktop btw.
-a dev kit made of the bits delivered in bulk to the developer. The hardware and software being designed separately by Apple it's not surprising. The pieces: a black box containing the motherboard, buttons emulating the final product's buttons or shortcuts, a pre-production touchscreen without any frame around it. -a fool showing his dev kit's serial number to the whole planet...
If this is real, it's coherent. And if it is the hottest thing they have to show that'd be indeed not a ready-to-launch product but more like it still needs 6 months of work. Unless he had it on his desk for 6 months.
At first, I thought OS X was a must but a multicore ARM with a desktop iPhone version of the OS makes sense: cooler CPU, easier to carry, better battery life. And if they make a desktop nearly as nice as OS X, the sky is the limit. Porting the iPhone apps won't be too much of a headache and new specific ones would benefit from the ecosystem. Of course multitasking and not one app at a time.

So no more news? If you d'ont know the final aesthetic, maybe you know more about the software? What about the possibilit to use the tablet as second screen or input device for iMac or Macbook?
If not real, this is still something pretty compelling.
It's obvious that there's some sort of iPhone operating system running on the device. In the video, where it says "Cannot get Mail" as an error when the device boots up. This is pretty amazing, considering the iPhone runs on ARM architecture. Even if this wasn't the device, I would still be very interested to see what it IS or how this was done.

Haha, I didn't think it couldn't be done. Just seemed rather inefficient.
If there was a close button it'd be far less motions to close a window rather than any of these. Also, he never mentions how he closes them or answers my question on it earlier.

No, really, I am not that terrible of a person. That is very sorry news, and I remember reading that when it happened.
Looks like someone just placed a bunch of iphone screenshots onto their wallpaper via photoshop or something, and set it as their background. not too impressive.

Well done you for not actually bothering to watch any of the videos in this thread.
This is either the best fake I've ever seen, or the most basic beta implementation of a tablet OS I've seen, I give my hats off if it's fake, it's a damn good one if it is, but, looking at it all without reading all the "OMFG IT'S A FAKE I KNOW IT" comments, the evidence mounts up that it could just be a real live working dev kit, if someone else has posted a almost identical video, chances are, this is a dev kit, with a fairly alpha or beta OS running, and at some point, we will see a tablet computer at some point.
In a software dev kit, the developer would work on a hardware basis that has nothing to do with the look of the final product, only strictly what is needed for him to test the software:motherboard, touchscreen, generic buttons, no external shell. The components are all separated.
If it's an extension of the iPhone OS, version 3.0 is logical and all these products (iPod Touch, iPhone, tablet) would evolve in sync.
If a Mac tablet shows up, we'd probably see a 10.6 reference in a dev kit screenshot for the same reasons, the tablet features then being an extension of the standard OS X 10.6 complemented by the tablet-specific libraries.

EDIT: Actually, could be a real dev kit, it'd be a LOT of effort to go through to fake that... Also it could be a old dev kit who knows? And there was rumors that there would be a full one and smaller cheaper (less like a actual computer) one so you never know...

I have been following all of these rumors pretty closely as I would love to have an Apple tablet. I am not quite sure how Apple will implement this machine but as far as hardware goes I am thinking along the lines of an Air sans the keyboard.
These latest screenshots from the french site show a Gbit wired ethernet jack port as standard equipment. This definitely cannot be real. Why would anyone in their right mind want to plug a tablet into a network jack of all things. IMHO this would be like putting a network jack on an iPod touch or an iPhone. Portable devices were never meant to be tethered down with wires. If anything, there will be some sort of docking station in the event you would want to use this as a stationary device. Or perhaps that iMac'esque dock we saw the schematic for a while back.

I'm actually happy with using the iPod Touch 2nd Gen as a tablet over WLAN.
If they make it much more powerful while increasing battery life; I'd be even more happy. Bonus with a quality camera with LED.
7-10" Glass LED LCD is the sweet spot, but at what slope would such a screen be granted??

OP where have you gone? You've dropped off the face of the earth, you don't have to post pictures or videos every time, you can just chat to us about the tablet
