That’s one way yes. Or just download the Apple TV+ app.

This shown method is for those who want everything in one place. Now you can search Apple’s catalogue inside Prime Video and stream.
I was being facetious 😋

Whatever strategy Apple had to sell more hardware with their foray into TV and movie production, it's well and truly out of the window now

This feels sloppy strategically and un-Apple to me. The very limited exposure this gives them doesn’t make up for the loss of control over distribution and degradation of brand.
I doubt it will make much of a dent either way.

I'm an Amazon Prime member, and I also have Apple TV+, and two Apple TV boxes. I don't see any value in trying to access Apple TV content from my Prime account. Just seems redundant in my case. I wonder if this really impacts anyone on this forum.
It’s additional advertising in Prime for Apple TV titles, and Prime Video searches will turn up Apple TV titles. Even if customers then use Apple TV+, it’s still a win.

I hope there’s some other undisclosed part of the deal. Prime Video being an Apple TV Channel would be a start. Maybe something to do with NFL or MGM content? Or something else entirely—even from another arm of AMZN’s business?

Apple TV+ is a subscription service which you want as much as subscribers as possible. Why would Apple want limited exposure to Apple TV+?

This is the same idea why Apple Music is available on Android and Windows… Or iTunes were available on Windows to sync with iPods.

If there is a day where Apple starts to monetizing iOS (not from hardware sales, but from iOS as services) I am sure Apple will expand iOS to other hardware manufacturers.

I know I am happy to pay my dues to Apple for my apps I make and sell, because I wouldn't have a business if it wasn't for their platform and APIs. In the bad old days I would have been very, very lucky to take home 30% before tax, with DVD manufacturing, Storage, shipment, distribution. Hell the physical shop took 40-50% straight off.

It's good to hear a developers viewpoint. Apple has significantly reduced the up front costs of getting software to market and thus the risk. There are no discs to buy, duplicate, manuals to print, etc. and pay for before you sell the first one; and as you point out even when you sold one you were lucky to see 30% of the selling price.

Apple's 30% or 15% is a pretty good deal when you consider what it used to cost. I suspect small developers, when Apple opens up iOS more, will be hard pressed to go it alone and keep their costs below 15%; let alone reach a customer base as large and lucrative as in the App Store.

I feel people just don't get that at all.

They don't, and somehow think Apple's cut is an "Apple Tax." They also don't get that developers decide how much tehy want to make off an app and price accordingly. The real challenge, as I see it, is mobile app developers have conditioned customers to expect apps to be cheap, such as around 1$/Euro or free; thus making app sales a numbers game.

Seriously, no, I'm sure they won't be paying 30%, but they will have hammered out an equitable and mutually beneficial deal (from Amazon and Apple's position) which is what happens when two businesses each have something the other wants.

I'm sure there will be some favorable terms for both parties; I could see Amazon offering some titles as part of a Prime subscription in return for giving Apple a smaller cut of subscription revenue.

I pay for one or two months per year, whenever there's a batch of my favorite shows to binge.

That's a good strategy, though staggered releases seems to be one way companies are trying to reduce such churn.

Is anyone actually paying for Apple TV+? I feel like there is a voucher for X months for free all the time.

Through various offers I have several years left of my free Apple TV+.

Excatly. They are happy to pay 30% because it's their platform. They developed it, they created the devices that allows companies to exist off the back of it.

I feel people just don't get that at all. And the open source evangelists... don't they have a home and family to pay for? Actually probably not, they are either multi-millionaires from way back or live in their mom's basement.
Come back when they decide to become your competitor and you'll be removed from their store.

Is anyone actually paying for Apple TV+? I feel like there is a voucher for X months for free all the time. Just yesterday I bought a AppStore gift card of 25 bucks on Amazon and when I applied the voucher on the AppStore on my iPhone, they also offered me 3 months of free TV+ in a pop up.
Eventually they will stop letting you use vouchers on that apple account lol (I speak from experience)

People don’t seem to be familiar with the fact that Amazon does this with lots of streaming services

It’s like Apple offering “Channels” in the TV app.

Amazon probably gets access (and/or permission) to analyse/monetise viewer activity data on AppleTV+ purchased through Prime .... that right there would be a no for me, since it's nobody's business but mine (and maybe Apple).

The thing is, as tent-pole shows are concerned, Rings of Power draws a lot more viewers than Foundation or Severance.
Deserved or not, that is true for all streaming services. Apple’s only draw is Ted Lasso.

To be honest, we had another 6 months of free ATV+ and I usually skipped or should have skipped the first two episodes of any series because the third episode is usually the one in which they catch up to the description of the show. So much filler, it’s like they don’t dare start the story right away, they first need to get a shower, eat breakfast, read the paper, wait for the bus, talk to some colleagues and then remember that they needed to start something today. Two episodes of that.

Apple TV+’s problem is the same as Apple’s problem with gaming: they refuse to become a full-fledged studio. One of the best things they could have done was bought a studio such as Paramount. This would have given them an instant library along with a number of popular IPs they could use. But they don’t seem to want to go “all-in” on being a studio, so they continue to put out content that no one has heard of and never gets great viewing numbers except for a couple relatively minor hits. Just like with games Apple refuses to take that deep dive and will always be an also-ran in this space.

I think I have maybe paid for 1 month of Apple TV+ because I forgot to change to the promotional package from T-Mobile

Yes, people without a clue but with an opinion based on nothing. Amazon has lots of channels (subscriptions)...adding Apple TV+ is nothing new.

I’m pretty sure there’ll be a commission or other exchange of value. Amazon won’t be doing this for nothing.

Or they could do it because it makes things better for their customers at no cost to them while also having people use their ecosystem more. Something Apple can't fathom at this point.

What are you on about?

Of course Apple is paying Amazon for the right to distribute their content on Amazon's platform. That's how business works.
I don’t think people had an issue with paying Apple to distribute on the Apple Store. The issue was that you could only distribute iPhone apps in that way, and outside of Europe it still works that way. For now.
