Default selection to the oldest 'new' episode? What happens when there isn't a new episode? Does it default to the newest 'old' episode or the oldest 'old' episode?

If you have no "new" episodes, it will just default to the newest (i.e. the top one).

It remembers your previous selection in the menu so the next time you enter it should select the episode you last watched.

Now all I have to do is. . .

go up to the guys I work with and just had lunch with and ask, "You had the beef noodle soup like me, right? Are you feeling OK?" Then, I run home and load up the AppleTV Take 2 update!

Guys,

What is the best way to transfer from standard DVD into :apple:TV?
I heard using Handbrake is good. What seetings would make the quality of this DVD transfer look as good as a DVD on :apple:TV?

Not too worried about the size, because I plan to add a 750gig external drive and connect it to :apple:TV so i can have my whole library of music and videos locally and at my fingertips.

Thanks for any feedback.;)

Has anyone tried watching a movie rented in itunes on the apple tv yet? Does it show up in itunes as a rental under the apple tv to be synced?

In iTunes, you can select the Apple TV and choose the "Movies" tab. The rentals on iTunes should show up in a box on the left and you can "Move" them to the Apple TV's box on the right (or back to iTunes).

Once a movie has been moved to Apple TV, it will show up along side the locally rented movies.

X_x

is it me or does the
girl from the guided
tour on apple's site
look a lot like the
chucky doll from
'child's play'?!?

Please someone tell me the "My Movies" section isn't just a huge long list of all the movies in iTunes. Is there any organization at all? Playlists, genres, years, etc?

My two minute impression

WOW

It was worth the wait. There are already a good number of HD movies available. I also watched a HD trailor for Star Trek!

I rushed home from work on my lunch break to DL the update and to check it out. I did not think the DL/install would take 25 min so I only had like 4 minutes to actually check it out.

.>>>>> ok now back to trying to recover a 6 year old SQL DB from an old tape backup... i would rather be playing with my ATV.

i'm stuck at the office! i'm so jealous.
sounds like most people and happy and finding unexpected updates. can't wait to get home and check it out.

Yes. It divides the seasons up.

It's completely messed up my TV shows - All I see now is a big long list of the TV show name under TV shows (no separation into anything, and no episode name in the list, only under the artwork after you wait a couple of seconds). This is for TV shows ripped from DVD and then setup using "Set Video Kind of Selected" and Meta X. If this is how it's supposed to work then the Apple TV will be going straight into the bin - it's completely unusable as it is :mad:

EDIT: I've now fixed the problem by removing and re-adding the synchronization between my iTunes Library and the ATV. Not sure if it was a glitch during the update or something stupid I was doing

I would strongly suggest you look at the Sony SXRD series... particularly the XBR SXRD if you have the dough.

But what about viewing angle? the room it would reside in is adjacent to the kitchen, and i'd be watching TV from straight on, and also at about 45 degrees when standing in the kitchen. That's why i asked about LCDs, they have the best viewing angle, yes?

Are you sorting by "Date" instead of "Show"? Hit the right arrow on that menu...

Okay, I must admit that I'm not a fan of the Apple TV. I'm trying to understand why it's worth buying, but I just don't see it. 90% of what I watch is network broadcast TV...and the Apple TV does nothing for that. What would I do, switch back and forth when I want to browse on Apple TV, then switch back to watch TV? What's the typical Apple TV setup look like?

In the Apple Store I worked in, we hardly ever sold an Apple TV, including to the employees. Can someone educate me on what's so cool about it other than to charge me for entertainment that I already pay for with Cable/Satellite?

On another topic, what LCD hi-def TV would anyone here, recommend to go with an appleTV?

Any particular reason you're only considering LCD? I don't think there's a finer looking TV than the Panasonic plasmas.

I also watched a HD trailor for Star Trek!

The 300 HD preview looks great - Moulin Rouge OTOH look like complete crap - my SD DVD player non-upscaled looks better than that one (must be a problem with the video cause it looks dreadful compared to the others trailers I watched).

wait a minute...can I stream TO an apple TV from itunes on a mac, or FROM an apple tv to airport express ? or both ???

You can stream TO and Apple TV from a mac.

Apple TV can now behave like an airport express and show up in the iTunes speaker list.

while i never rent movies (why rent when buying is so easy? and i refuse to give extra $$ to apple after the iphone ringtone bitch-slap), the Apple TV is what I am most excited about when it comes to their newer products.

the fact that they upgraded to 1080 means everything to me. i really want one of these. i have $200 credit to the apple store, and am seriously thinking about buying one of these. the fact that i could keep my movies on my mac and stream them to the apple tv means that it doesnt really matter how much HD space the thing has.

the only thing i dont like is the fact that i would have to have 2 files per movie, one for my iphone and one for my apple tv.

i still want one, and am thinking about getting one.

Plasma has the best viewing angle, and some other advantages too...
