Yeah, doomed. Just like the iPhone v1

You can't honestly believe there is even a comparison to be made here

The iPhone was an evolution and iteration on a well liked and exceptionally useful concept (mobile phones)

A headset, whether VR/AR or anything else, is not going to remotely touch the adoption levels seen in mobile handheld devices. They are just wildly different categories

People that can’t see the use for this seem to have very limited imagination or any kind of perspective into the future. Seems the millennials are now the “back in my day generation”. Yes, I am a millennial.

Jig Space is the only app that I've seen here giving added value to the Vision Pro user beyond entertainment. Looks great! Similar to what I would have made.

The average person is going to use this thing for a couple days or maybe even only a few hours, only to realize they're 2x as productive on their iPhone/iPad/MacBook. Looking at this list of apps only reaffirms my belief in that.

Until this thing becomes small/inconspicuous/efficient enough to actually be worn in public for AR purposes, it's only saving grace will be gaming, and Apple is doing a mighty fine job of digging their own grave on that front.

Apple was purportedly planning to make 500k of these headsets, but their sales supposedly fell off a cliff once ~180k-200k were sold. That's not a good sign by any means, and I'm going to bet that a sizable number of those initial sales are going straight back for a refund.

Fully agree

I'd truly actually love a very futuristic AR glasses device, if it were able to be miniaturized into normal eye/sun glasses form factors.

I honestly think the tech for that isn't even remotely close though, notably the tech needed to provide power for it.

The killer app is what Apple has been saying all along: spatial computing. One 4K Mac display in front of you, Safari and notes and communication windows all around you. Successful apps will probably feed into that.

$3500 is a lot, but it's basically the same price as a pair of Studio Displays.

If I were on the market for Vision Pro, I would be so devastated without YouTube app. It is the main app that I have used most of the time for consumption. Using it in Safari or web browser is not the same as using it with app, at least for me. However, for others, that would be no problem so for those who get one, keep calm and be happy with any apps Vision Pro can offer. life is too short to be unhappy on anything

Christian from Apollo has created a good YouTube 3rd party app

I made a simple ($0.99) app called LIVs - Live Info Views. It monitors critical system information such as battery/power/thermal info, storage, and network. Any given metric can be opened in a separate window for custom placement of info that's important to the user.

I hope this is useful for some. Feedback welcome! :)

The product has been on the market for one day. Where did it say they were planning to sell 500k by day one?

I’m wondering that if you already own some of these apps whether you’ll have to re-buy them. It’s arguable that these are “new” apps, though iPad and iPhone apps are usually in the same binary and are a single purchase. For instance, I already own Fantastical For iPhone/iPad/Mac.

I couldn't imagine hovering over a stove with juices and oil and steam flying around .... all getting in/on/around my $3500+ VR/AR-ish Scuba Mask
I suppose you’d have to try it to know if it’s practical. Apparently Joanna Stern of WSJ did just that. It was rather interesting. She had recipes floating in mid-air as well as separate cooking timers hovering over each pot on her stove. It could make cooking fun.

No YouTube, no Netflix, no Spotify, etc. and no guarantee that we will ever get other good apps.
What is Apple thinking selling the Vision Pro for over $3000? Why should anyone pay that much for it?

All of your apps listed are consumption apps. Is that your idea of "Good" while ignoring everything else?

How dare Apple, eh?

Each developer will make that choice separately. Some will bundle, some will not. For example, if the extra costs of developing means a price increase for everyone, that's not very fair.

It's not gonna work. This thing is going to be Tim Cook's Apple Newton. Needs at least another 10-15 years of technological progress before this becomes even remotely mass-marketable. Not unlike the Apple Newton.

You're going to compare this to a cell phone? Something the average person already has a substantial need for? The iPhone could get away with not having extensive functionality on launch because it still satisfied users fundamental need of being a phone, first and foremost. What fundamental use-case does the Vision Pro satisfy? Also bear in mind, the original iPhone also had a $499 price tag, not $3499.

You missed out on some sarcasm there, friend. 🫣

Two years from now, and Apple Vision Pro will be the leader of the AR/VR industry. Guaranteed.

Competitors won't be able to get close. Close enough, but not close.

Crouton is one of the only listed apps that is really in the vein of what VisionOS apps should be - while I don't know if I wouldn't want to cook with a VR headset strapped to my head, that's the kind of thing that makes augmented reality shine. When tech finally catches up for a more glasses-based experience, I'd be be like white on rice with that.
However, cooking with a batter pack attached by cable is a terrible and dangerous idea. I hook myself in certain clothes on things now.
