Hopefully you can confirm lenses would be available/not available for you before the AVP goes on preorder.

Maybe some vitamins and eye exercises could correct it ? There's still time to fix our eyes before launch.
This is a problem of aging eyes and isn’t fixable (yet). Our muscles which focus our lenses lose the ability to flex as much with age, as does the lense itself, which is why after the age of 40-45 (dependent on your biology), people need ‘reading’ glasses to see close-up. Eyes can no longer shift focus adequately to see nearby well enough to read text.

True. Dry eyes also contribute to the problem, so keeping them properly lubricated helps. Also, I do remember reading about a way to relax the eyes.
In my case, sometimes I don’t need reading glasses, as the day progresses I need them.

Strange question: I did LASIK and see great now, one eye far one eye close....does that affect wearing Vision pro and will I need lenses?
Excellent question, Nuno: What happens when you watch TV or try to read from a computer display? Can you see clear with both eyes, then covering one eye at a time with a something dark (without pressing on the eye)?

In worse case scenario you may need only one corrective lense.

Especially for a first-gen product. At best, you’ll get 2 years use out of this first model. Like my first Apple Watch, which was so slow as to be unusable by the time the series 2 ios update hit. I knew that would likely be the case, but I couldn’t help myself. At least, when the screen delaminated toward the end of the first year, Apple replaced it with a newer model.

But THIS technology does look amazing. I will just want to wait for at least the 3rd edition. I imagine there will be many bugs to work out for at least the first two generations of this. And given how much time Apple has invested in this tech, I do think they will give it at the very least 5+ years to catch on.
I still use my original series Apple watch and it's great. It's not as slow as you suggest and still keeps track of things for me. I also have the series 4 which is snappier. who needs things to be faster and faster anyway? Before we know it, we'll end up behind ourselves!

I'm confused about why the need for prescription lenses. I assume this is for people that have a blurry vision of distant objects - nearsightedness (myopia) . If the display is 2" from your eyes, why is there a need to correct?

These have their own lenses in addition to any prescription inserts. You're focusing at a distance, not up close.
This doesn't make sense. If I'm watching TV, things that are distant in the scene don't become blurry. If these displays are 2" from my eyes, what is making me focus on something distant?

Hopefully they sell each insert separately since some people have different prescriptions for each eye.
Had a frustrating argument on Facebook with a guy who insisted Apple could have just let people swap out the main lens rather than add lenses to it. He refused to listen about people with mixed prescriptions and being able to let other people use the rig by taking your lenses out. Some people will cling to their conspiracy theories rather than admit they are wrong 🤬

Same but it was a while ago and I suspect I’ll need some help with both eyes since I notice a bit of focus problem now and then depending on my eye dryness. Haven’t been to an optometrist in years so have no idea where even my 20/20 eye is now at. Will finally have to have an eye checkup! But yes, wonder how monovision works with this. I figure it would be optimum to get both eyes to 20/20 since that’s what the rig is designed for.

Hopefully one day, Apple Vision will be nearly as small as regular eyeglasses.
It’ll be quite a trick to get that many physical cameras on regular frames. How would they be far enough clear of your facial features to detect casual gestures? Plus, there would be no light blocking. You would have to rely on AirPods for the audio. Not sure the experience would be optimum

Wrong, all other headsets are sold as video game devices or professional work use instruments, you use them for specific tasks, not one is sold as a home use or general use item just like your phone, that's EXACTLY how Apple is advertising this thing, it will fail in its sales. Even for a first gen product. It looks ridiculous and disconnects you from everyone else.
They think you'll walk around with this thing on shopping etc. I think you and Apple will soon realise no body will want this, when all it does is the same as their phone, whilst making you look stupid.
I’m not as insecure as you are. The only reason I wouldn’t wear it in public is the fear someone would steal it off my head.

The battery has been tested using a variety of functions so it will probably be more like 2 1/2 hours for passive movie viewing. That’s still not enough for Avatar 2 (3 1/2 hours) which they highlighted in the presentation. However the battery connects via mag safe so a slightly larger battery pack should be a trivial upgrade.
A reviewer also said the usbc port on the battery could daisy chain to another battery if you wanted.

Personally I’m a huge fan of VR, but I tend to agree that I can’t see the general population going for a headset, when lots of people complain about wearing 3d glasses for just a couple of hours to watch a movie.

That said, being old enough to recall a time before cell phones, people actually look pretty stupid walking around using their phones, but we’ve just gotten used to it.
Remember when we wondered if people were talking to themselves like psychos until we got used to people talking through their ear buds?

I'm genuinely impressed with the Apple Vision Pro... way more than I thought I would be... But this seems like an accessibility nightmare, and I'm really surprised Apple is going down this path the way they claim to care about disabilities. I guess the future is only available to people with good eyesight. Prescription lense add-ons won't work for everyone.

I do hope to own/experience this thing at some point if I can afford it. But how many years I'll be able to operate it is questionable considering how quickly my vision has been degrading in recent years.
We know nothing about accommodations for Accessibility.

Seems to me that visually impaired people can still have eye movements tracked, and after some training, it would be proxy for VoiceOver with fingertips, possibly better, since hands would be freed up for the regular gestures.

I can’t go through 8 pages.

Anyway, I wear Zeiss GT lenses. The Lenses cost about 1600CAN and are flown in from Germany. I don’t think you have to get the lenses specifically made for the headset - but I haven’t read the whole article or thread. My lenses look exactly the same shape as the ones in the diagram. I could just take an old pair and stick them in the holder?

Actually I don’t see why they can’t just make an adjustable holder on the headset and let people just plop their old lenses in there. I do audio video work and needed the lenses without color problems that most people don’t care about (they also don’t need the Zeiss holograms on the sides either).

I would say that most can get by with basic adjustments on the headset if available as I can dial in good vision on regular video eyepieces if you are myopic.

I’m not buying this as it’s too expensive for what it does, but forcing folk to buy Zeiss is crazy - And I broke a new pair within weeks of getting another pair. The good part is I wanted one lens replaced and they replaced both as the lenses were improved and ethically would not give me the single lens with a slightly different formula to the lens material. So two lenses for the price of one. Great company but Zeiss is either number 1 or at worst number 2 in the world for performance and quality. For Apple to specify Zeiss is kind of bizzare. I could do this as I’m not poor but the cost is insane right now even for me!

Knock yourself out, but don’t be surprised if you are told to take off off in stores and banks. And people stare at you and comment how stupid you look.

I agree, it is a losing proposition to endlessly purchase new(er) products, especially when the iterations are minor. I guess the series 1 wasn’t that slow. But compared to the newer model I had, I found it annoying. But now, i’m only upgrading every few years, or when the battery life is significantly shortened (barring some truly revolutionary improvement). So, my series 4 is still great (and with great battery life) and so is the series 7. Th-ey’re different colors (gold stainless series 4, silver stainless series 7). In the end I decided that I definitely prefer silver. And the resale or trade-in value is so low, it doesn’t even make sense to sell old models. I am tempted to buy an Ultra…but I really don’t need one.

It's funny you talking about battery life. I've just had a replacement iPhone 12 Pro Max, with a brand new battery, but it's lasting half a day! It's crazy! I wish I could downgrade to the original firmware and then the battery would last a day and a half. I am deep in the ecosystem but I wish sometime I weren't.
