Not always. My phone was delivered to a UPS store and I was able to pick it up on launch day.
Probably depends on the specific route. Our UPS driver always stops at the local store first, before making his commercial rounds, then residential. So when I’ve had things held at the store, they’ve always been ready for pick it up by at least 10am. If I don’t, then it will almost always be after 3pm before it arrives at the house.
I’ve never had something get pushed to the next day because I had it held, even if I’ve only made the change the night before delivery.
Ahh. Now the wait for the infamous import scan. Will it be today? Will it be tomorrow? Will it be 5 mins before they dispatch to their final destinations?!? We shall see
My order status still says "Preparing to Ship" but also still says it will arrive Friday, September 23. Should I be worried that I haven't gotten the actual shipping notification yet?
You’re not going to get the shipping notification until it clears customs in Louisville. That’s when Apple will switch to Shipped and email you the tracking number. They do the same thing with the phones.

If Apple says you'll get it on the 23rd, you'll most definitely get it on the 23rd.

I got the S7 over the S8 but still ordered one on Amazon to have a look. I ordered late and didn’t expect to arrive in September. Well I got the notification that it will arrive on Saturday and just watched MKBHD‘s review and it looks nice. I think his wrists are even smaller than mine.

Yes mine is still saying “Preparing to Ship”, even though it’s been sitting in Louisville, KY since yesterday evening.
It will most likely be tomorrow. Looks like we will all be hanging out today with no activity.
I just submitted my request to pick up my AW from UPS CC. Friday can't get here soon enough.
I hope they show up for you. My AirPod Pro 2s were on a truck last Friday and never got to me. I think they realized it was before their release date.

If you are in Louisville, Kentucky. I would request it right now. Make sure it is your assigned UPS CC hub (not some random Walgreens or CVS) also check what are there hours for pick up. Do they open in the morning or in the evening? Lastly, make sure you get this assigned date - 9/23.

I made (and paid for) my request to hold at the local CC a couple days back, but have had no notification from UPS on it. My card was charged the 6 bucks for the hold, so they have my money - just hoping I get some notification that the hold's in place and I'm able to swing by the CC Friday morning to pick up the AWU.
For SoCal (LA / San Bernardino / OC), UPS flights out our way are between noon to 1:30pm our time (PDT)...so if there is any movement today out west, that's when I'll be checking.
