This thing is awesome. I think this is a fantastic revision and upgrade. OLED screen, slimmer, weight, battery, charging. It’s everything you could hope for in a revision.
Every model of Apple Watch has had an OLED screen.

how exactly is it dated?10th year of incremental upgrades. Watch OS is dated and badly needs a refresh with new features.
But it doesn't have the pulse ox that my series 6 does and I'm not going to upgraded until a new model has the function.
The first Apple Watch Series 10 reviews have been published by various media outlets and YouTube channels, ahead of the device launching on Friday.

Key new features for the Apple Watch Series 10 include larger displays with 42mm and 46mm case sizes, a nearly 10% thinner design compared to the Apple Watch Series 9, a new Jet Black polished aluminum case option, faster charging, the ability to play audio through the built-in speaker, voice isolation for phone calls, Depth and Tides apps for water activities, and more. In addition, watchOS 11 adds a new sleep apnea detection feature on the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Reviews
The Verge's Victoria Song on the Series 10's larger displays:
Sleep apnea detection has only been available for a short time, so reviewers said they have not been able to test it thoroughly yet. The feature is now available in more than 150 countries and regions on watchOS 11, which was widely released yesterday.
Sleep apnea is a potentially serious disorder in which a person's breathing repeatedly stops and starts while they sleep. The detection feature uses the Apple Watch's accelerometer to "monitor small movements at the wrist that are associated with interruptions in normal respiratory patterns," according to Apple. If these disturbances occur frequently over multiple nights, they may be associated with sleep apnea, according to Apple.

I'm still using my Series 5 (after taking advantage of the battery service last month), although I must admit there are occasional lags in the OS. Series 5 does have 32 GB storage and 1 GB RAM though, which is sufficient for its OS. Watch OS 10.6.1 works fine with iOS 18. I figure I won't upgrade until maybe Series 12 or something, or maybe earlier if I can get it on sale for cheap. It's a great watch but I feel like if you have AW7 or newer you don't need to upgrade. And even AW6 is perfectly capable nowadays
Same for me, I'm keeping my ULTRA since I still have the Blood Oxygen sensor. No SpO2 sensor ☹️
Seems likes a downgrade from my AW8
Nope, same processor (also same as the one in the Ultra 2). That’s why both those are also getting Sleep Apnea detection. Is the processor any faster than the series 9?

how exactly is it NOT dated? It's literally same Watch OS last 8+ years. Every year we get 1 or 2 new complications. That's it. What else did it add that's really considered newsworthy? At the end of the day, it's still mostly used for getting notifications. Kind of sad.how exactly is it dated?
You are spot on. Battery life is the most crucial feature for me as well with the watch. I don't care about the bigger screen. The regular watch needs to last a day and night + usage. I am not interested in charging it twice a day just because I did a workout.Poor battery life keeps me uninterested. I was hoping for a new ultra, but as that one didn't materialize I'll just keep waiting with my series 5 watch. Faster charging is nice, having to charge twice a day is not. I'll buy a new one when I can rely on the watch to comfortably hold a charge for a full day and night EVEN IF I ACTUALLY USE IT.
I thought I'd be ok with the battery life and charging speeds of my current one, but in reality it's a nightmare. Half the time the watch is out of power when I need it. So these lukewarm updates can be bought by those who want a marginal update. I'll wait for something more concrete.
Well technically it still has the sensor (it uses LEDs that are already built in). It’s just that the US Version of Watch OS won’t let you use it for now*.No SpO2 sensor ☹️

My guess is without turning the Series into an Ultra that’s not possible so Apple thought if they could make the Series watch a bit thinner and lighter and keep the same battery life that was a win.You are spot on. You sound kinda obsessed loliJustine is a clear NO for me...oh wait, this time no iJustine video here. thank the gods.
I am curious about this. If it was its own sensor and was excluded from the 10 would Apple have to disclose that? Would some not buy the 10 if they knew they could never get the blood oxygen feature?Well technically it still has the sensor (it uses LEDs that are already built in). It’s just that the US Version of Watch OS won’t let you use it for now*.
* Until either Apple settles the lawsuit or the patent expires in August 2028.
There's incremental and there's... this. The upgrades after 3-4 years are definitely worth it, but the caveat is that the upgrades are all present in the 9, for the most part. I don't think sleep apnea is restricted to the 10.To everyone saying the updates are incremental, well yeah. Just like the iPhone it’s a mature product that doesn’t change a lot year over year. However, after 3-4 generations the new features add up.
Honestly sleep apnea detection is alone worth the upgrade considering how many people might not know they have it.
