Today's report:

90% upon wake, 9 hours 15 min of standby.

I find the sport bands, sport loops and my leather from FFF to be the most comfortable bands I own, whether awake or asleep.

I was interested to see if 5.1 would affect battery usage, but I didn't charge before bed. I'll check tonight. Possibly beneficial to let the update process settle down even if it is only a .1 update.

The FFF bands look interesting. I've been thinking about getting one. Do you find the fastening method to be secure?

I agree with your thoughts on letting the update settle, I'm not sure last night's result would have given you an accurate depiction of battery life or not given what I perceive is happening when our iDevices get updates.

As far as FFF bands, they're very secure. If you order, read through the sizing guide very carefully, these are tailored to fit your wrist. Great customer service though because as your wrist size changes or if their leather stretches, drop them a note and they'll send you out a brand new strap. I have an Alpine Gray Suede that stretched on me. Emailed them and had a replacement within a few days. It's really a nice match with Space Gray, I've had many compliments on it. Honestly of all the bands I own it is the most comfortable. No buckle, no pin or no plastic (think sport loop) under your wrist. Literally like a second skin.

Thanks for the reply. Seems like too much hassle to be honest. Might just delete the app and stay with AutoSleep
Reinstalled SleepWatch after updating iPhone to 12.1 and Watch to 5.1 and it's working fine now. I quite like it as it always you to adjust any incorrect settings (like this morning I was fast asleep between 5 and 6:10 but it showed me awake at 5:15. It allowed me to correct this) and I also like how it asks you how you feel upon waking up. Glad I tried again.

Not yet. First night last night.
I went ahead and downloaded SleepWatch to try it out myself. I do like the sleep apps that don't require you to start and stop your sleep sessions, because I tend to forget to start and/or stop them.
[doublepost=1541079066][/doublepost]Last night, running WatchOS 5.1 I had 95% battery remaining after 7 hours.

That seems on par with what I was getting with 5.0.1, so it's nice to see the update doesn't seem to have had an adverse affect on battery usage.

Today's report: 92% upon wake, 9 hours 12 min since last charge. So far, it seems I'm still running about the same whether I have DND on or not. Though I do like the idea of not having my wrist buzz during the night which is a win in of itself.

@tromboneaholic I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on SleepWatch after you've had some time using it.

I drained a little more than expected. 88% after 8 hours 50 min of standby. I noticed I had not force quit a couple of apps-weather and activity. Not sure if that had any impact or whether it was just an off night.

That does seem a little high. Are these apps for which you have background app refresh on?

I forgot to check my battery before bed last night, but it looks like it was 5%-8% or so. Definitely under 10%.

Background refresh for Activity is on, Weather is not. I've tracked it for 11 days so far and my average is working out to 91%, so less than a 10% loss on average. I can certainly live with that.

After I track for 2 weeks and then get your thoughts on impact of battery life of calibration, I may try that depending on the outcome of your findings.

Hello is interesting to know about the battery.
But the most important: does it really detect when you sleep and when you are awake?

I think it does a good job detecting start and stop.. I must be an active sleeper as some nights I manage to get stand hours and have no rememberance of this.. so, the sleep apps tend to show you awake during these times. I might be more awake than I know though. The sleep apps do their best to analyze how good your sleep was based on movement and heart rate.. I imagine it’s not any less accurate than a Fitbit.

So a couple of updates. I've completed two weeks of monitoring battery life. I typically charge the battery some time before I go to bed and pull it off the charger before going in. This might be literally a minute before or it could be an hour+ more. My average is roughly 91% battery life upon wake with an average of 9.6 hours of standby. I rounded these numbers and rounded the standby times. I can live with that.

I also experimented and kept the Watch off the charger for 24 hours (standby) and got 2 hours 36 min of use with 62% battery remaining.

AW Series 4 Aluminum

Settings: DND is on, Background Refresh is on for Activity, Weather, and Workout. I have Watch set to silent mode with Haptic Feedback set on minimal setting and Crown Haptics enabled. Screen brightness is set to minimal.

I've been running WatchOS 5.1.1 for a couple of weeks, and battery usage seems to be 5% to 8% overnight (7 to 8 hours).

One thing I learned in another thread is that I haven't been force closing my apps (even though I thought I was). It seems like swiping left on an app in the dock and hitting the X only removes the app from the dock - it doesn't force close the app.

The only way to force quit apps:
  1. Press and hold down the side button until the shutdown screen appears.
  2. Release the side button, then press and hold the Digital Crown to force quit the active app.

Not really about the Apple Watch but more to so with sleep. Has anyone tried the Bose sleepbuds?

Had them a few days now. I find them comfortable but I don’t think they’re helping me sleep. I find my mind still concentrating on the sounds. Don’t know whether to persevere with them or return them.

I saw them on Amazon, but the reviews were mixed.

I just use small earplugs to block noise at night. The Mack's Slim Fit don't bother me as much as some of the others I tried.

I have the 'benefit' of only 30% hearing in my right ear. The other is perfect. I do wear a single hearing aid but the great thing about it is that when i sleep I sleep on my left ear and hey presto I cant hear a thing :)

To get back on topic, I use Autosleep - lose about 7% on AW4 44mm overnight and find it really accurate :)

I have a 40mm, but I haven't checked to see how much it uses at night. I wear it at night and at work, and I charge it before bed. I don't really pay attention to the battery level because it never runs out.

I have them and LOVE them. I’m very sensitive to noise, and I used to listen to music at night to drown out extraneous noises. My new girlfriend had her own rigid sleeping regime that does NOT include soft music, so I tried the Bose. I use the Shower sound, and it blocks out all the stuff that kept waking me up, including my dog snoring. It’s not even up that loud, and sounds like rain.

Did it take you a while to get used to them? I find myself “listening” to the sounds. I think I need to try and ignore the sounds. Maybe because they’re new and I’m concentrating on them too much?
