I find it super hilarious the same people who want Apple to fall are complaining about not being able to service existing customers.

Not sure who you're talking about, but I'm not "rooting for Apple to fall"

I'm rooting for Apple to be held to account for the IP they are using while not properly compensating the rights holders.

If the situation were reversed, Apple would sue the infringer INTO THE GROUND

They need to play by the rules here

Definitely not a patent troll case. Masimo produces and sells medical products. Patent trolls are entities that purchase and hold patent portfolios with the intention of engaging in litigation.

Apple is currently suing Masimo, claiming that the 2020 lawsuits were used to gain access to confidential information that Masimo then used to develop their own smartwatch.

That's called pulling a Tengen. It ends badly.

There they go! Now you see them, now you don't!

I got Mrs. GS a series 9 about a week ago. I got her the larger one as she liked my Ultra but thought it was a "little too big". I hope she doesn't want to exchange it for the smaller one. That would be awkward.

Did they actually do anything with their „invention“ as the patent holder or does it simply exist to make money off of it (licenses)? If they don’t, it should be revoked after x years. It’s weird

I think a lot of people takes this too seriously.

This is just how you play the patent system in the US. The goal is not to break any patens at all, but to break as few of them as possible at the lowest possible cost for those you do break and need. Apple is very good at it.

Sometimes you loose, sometimes you win. C'est la vie!

Apple will still be able to sell all their watches outside the US. In the US they can still sell the SE model. And most of the customers won't be lost. What should they do? Buy an Android watch?

And when the presidential review period is over, Apple will appeal in addition to making ITC/US Customs reconsider if the software changes they're making is enough.

I guess at this point it’s about finding a fair agreement. I would assume the patent holder would try to get an outrageous amount of money out of this.
At this point they kind of earned it. Apple played fast and loose and now everyone knows Apple does not have any cards left and can not do much to stop it.

It is either pay up or pay a massive class action if they disable the feature.

Im not sure where winning the court case comes in since it was declared a mistrial and 6 out of the 7 jury members sided with apple. This will be appealed and who knows what happens then.
Where are you getting your alternate reality news from? Fox??

There was no mis-trial - a judge found Apple infringed in January.

The ITC upheld that ruling and put the import ban into effect.

I'm surprised Apple let it get this far. When similar things have happened in the past, they either paid to settle or reached a licensing agreement.

Unlike some suggestions here, I don't think Apple is going to spend $6B to buy Masimo. I don't think the O2 sensor on the Apple Watch makes more than $6B for them, so likely not worth it. They may just have to pay to license the tech, though.
