These endless posts about back glass breaking really are just getting so boring. Just ONE video showing it breaking, many more videos and reports showing it NOT breaking. I must be missing something here but what on earth are people worried about? Wheres the evidence theres a problem? Where’s the reports of actual users breaking their back glass?
I haven't broken iPhone glass since I dropped my iPhone 4 face down on a cement floor about 2 months after I first got it. I've dropped my big heavy Plus/Max phones (in cases) several times on tile and cement and have never had one scuff or scratch on any of them much less broken glass. I did have the silver/white iPhone X/XS Max and the antenna bands on those got scratched up just from the case being taken off, but I don't really count that.

It's not weak. If you use the muscular force of both of your arms on a small concentrated surface area of glass you will break it.

But that kind of thing doesn't happen in the real world.

It only happens in YouTube videos.

Likewise nobody puts phones in blenders.
Everyone was proud and happy when last year’s iPhone Pro Max stood the same test. When it didn’t happen.

I’m certainly no expert, but it seems like it would make sense that the larger device would be easier to break than the smaller, more compact one just by virtue of there being a bigger surface prone to breakage and being able to apply force differently due to the extra space.
I’m sure that most physicists and engineers would agree with you (engineer here 🙋🏻‍♂️). The issue is that the new Pro Max may have a weakness that’s not been seen in previous designs.

To address someone else’s point about users not yet seeing any issues. It is early days: too early for a weakness that probably only becomes a problem when dropping the phone onto a hard surface. If there is an issue, it will most likely only be seen by Apple as a difference in the rear glass replacement rates of 15 Pro Max’s compared to 15 Max’s.

What does this nonsense even mean?
I mean that this test matters to Apple, no matter what you, me or others think about these tests. JRE is very influential on manufacturers when it comes to a phone's sturdiness. Because tech enthusiasts care. JRE has praised Apple for quite a while now, and rightly so. The crack in this year's Pro Max was a surprise to JRE, and me also. We didn't see that coming. Apple can't ignore it. Next year it will be sturdier, mark my words.

Great. And? Next year's will have some other conjured-up "weakness" that people will say Apple was too stupid to see coming. This is pointless.

I saw a tear down video that possibly explains the weaker back glass. In previous models the back glass was attached to a metal plate, but to facilitate easier repairs, that said back plate is attached to the iPhone, so the back glass is just floating over it, the slight gap may have weakened it.

that being said, I don’t use a case in my 15 pro max, and I don’t foresee any scenario where I would put such pressure on the back of the phone to break it. if worst comes to worst, I have Apple care plus.

iOS17 update's overheating issues are not limited to newer iPhones.
my iPhone SE2 today, for the first time ever, stopped charging while getting a Qi charge from a mophie battery pack.
the phone got very hot, and gave a message something like charging has stopped and will resume after the phone cools down.

Where’s this argument about weak back glass came from? From JerryRigEverything? He only managed to break one iPhone. In fact if you stayed till the end of the video, he tried bending another 15 Pro and the glass didn’t break. It isn’t reproducible.

Drop, bend and whatever physical stress test are so subjective. Chill out people. Get the new phones, use them in good health and upgrade it come next September.

Edit: Seems like there are other users having broken back glasses but has any forumers here suffer from one?

Thanks @Fat_Guy for showing me other Redditors having similar broken back glasses

Thanks for sharing. But this isn’t scientific. The 15 PM has already been dropped once and all drops aren’t the same so the 15 PM might have structural compromises and the 14 PM doesn’t just because it might have landed differently.

This was not a one drop test. Less chance of errors over integrity when you have many drops rather than one. you can’t say the 15 always landed a bad way after let’s say ten drops together.

glass breaks and thats the nature of it no matter how companies tries to market it. but i do think media social in this age is so focus on one singular topic ( glass break , overheating ) , they fail to research the topic as a whole ( people that has no overheating and reviewers tries to bend it and the glass did not break ) ? i dont see them talking or report about it .

dont get me wrong i think all these reporting are good to keep those tech company in check and balance , but i do think its one sided tho..which of cos driven by the traffic and clicks knowing this topic will generate more traffic and clicks on their website or so called videos . which leads me question the reliability of it.

Here is a new one but related to the glass on an iPhone 15 - swelling!

I think this has been blown out of proportion. It’s iPhone 6 bend-gate all over again.

yup i saw it on other platform as well , it will be interesting to see how this develop.
Battery problems will get Apple’s attention. Remember Samsung. Could even be related to overheating.

That is a bigger deal than this or overheating. But right now this is just a one off. But this is concerning in any event. A six day old phone should not have a swollen battery! 😳

Either is a defect units or underlying issue which we had no idea. Apple should really improve their communication lol

Ceramic Shield is the toughest glass in the world. Why apple doesn't use Ceramic Shield on the rear panel? Will it affect MegSafe charging or will it increase the cost of production?

lol no idea , only apple and their employees knows , but be it the toughest glass or the weakest glass . one thing i do know for sure . buy a case to protect your investment especially apple product which cost so much. i mean if you decide to rock your device naked i think you should expect the unexpected. that is how i see it.

I hate to say it:

But heat can cause a battery to swell. This is potentially serious and Apple better get the update out quick! I’ll take glass breakage over a swelling battery any day!
