Erm…..no, we just don’t want to buy something with such a poor design
Here's the thing... if you owned a Magic Mouse, you'd realize it's not such a poor design after all. You're just falling for the meme created by all the other Magic Mouse haters that also don't own one.

I criticize Apple all the time for their poor designs, when it's actually true. In this case, it's not true... because for a mouse that is shaped like the MM and designed to be used wireless 100% of the time, there's not really a better place to put the port.

Am I in the minority that I much prefer a trackpad with Mac OS? Windows a mouse is a must, but I love the Mac trackpad.
I dislike the mouse because it can’t really do multitouch gestures. It would have been so easy for them to implement, but oh well. So I usually use the trackpad

It would be super to have Touch ID in the trackpad. Some people just don’t fancy Apple keyboard and Touch ID is becoming a must for all sorts of authentication.
This! I hadnt thought about this before , but I doubt they will do this because then people wouldn't buy their keyboard for desktops.. The only reason I use the Magic Keyboard is because of TouchID to login to my Studio since my studio display doesnt have FaceID.

What are the hardware teams doing at Apple....not updating products for years and then just slapping a new port is insane...

It's different for different people. I can acknowledge that some people need/want a fully "ergonomic" design that you hand hugs like the MX Master. For me, the MX Master causes me wrist pain and my light grip on the Magic Mouse is pain free. No other mouse can match the touch features of the Magic Mouse either.

I actually think they might add MagSafe charging, like the AirPods Pro 2 have, with a small magnetic charging disc in the bottom. Still won't be able to use it while charging, lol, but they'll charge more for it.
Honestly I think that would be worse. I’d want these peripherals to charge using the same charger as a Mac and iPad, the devices they’re used with, not with an iPhone charger.

All of these devices should pair with more than one other devices, especially at their price points (Apple's always been a ripoff). Logitech MX Keys keyboard lets u pair between 3 different devices and switch between all with ONE keystroke (F1, F2 and F3).... tbh, that's the better keyboard anyway so nobody should be buying Apple's own keyboard.
there might be hope given how AirPods can switch over multiple devices effortlessly. But that requires the H chip.

Do keyboards need a H chip? If they'd put a H chip just for this, I bet it's going to be $300 keyboards, which I cannot justify.

Such a dilemma.

It never made sense, my logitech and pretty much all other wireless mice out there use a plug at the front so you can basically just use the mouse wired while you charge, it’s pretty simple.

1. Logitech made a bottom charging port mouse for their touch gesture based device.
2. Logitech uses different materials on their cables (cheaper toxic PVC)

Also it kinda breaks the seamlessness of auto pairing as you switch devices, the keyboard and trackpad just get plugged in and automatically switch bluetooth, you can even leave them plugged in

Because the keyboard/trackpad doesn't move. The mouse does which would make the cable break easily.

Every other mouse in the galaxy with the port on the side or front makes even better sense.

Except Logitech made a touch mouse with bottom charge port.

Every other mouse manufacturer uses cheaper PVC materials in the cables which is toxic to you and environment. Apple had a design constraint to not use PVC which is less durable. Therefore they have to be mindful of how you use the cable. If the cable breaks often, it's not better than the original Magic Mouse with AA batteries because you'll be replacing the cables too often.

Basically you are saying that Apple designed the mouse to accomodate the cable instead of designing a cable to accomodate the mouse.

Lightning at the time was ubiquitous due to it being shipped by several hundred millions. If you had to bring a special cable to charge your mouse, how is that better than just carrying AA batteries? Just buy the original Magic Mouse instead. The designers at Apple realized this.

If Apple keeps the plug on the bottom with the new USB-C mouse does it still makes sense?

Apple has been shipping braided usb-c cables for a while now so it wouldn't make sense to do so to keep the port on the bottom. Plus there's wireless charging so it makes a ton of sense for Apple to include Qi charging or at least Apple Watch charging along side port charging.

I'd love Apple to embrace ergonomics. Their mice are really bad for long term daily use and they have been since the 90s. It would be great to see that change. I'm sure they could design an attractive mouse that doesn't destroy your wrists and hands if they wanted to

I think that's even more of an issue than the charging port on the bottom, which is also egregious

Please...Please...Don't just use this redesign to drop in USB C and nothing else

The Magic Mouse has the same sensor and wireless stack as when it was new, what 11 years later or something

I wish it was redesigned to be more ergonomic while keeping the touch gestures, and allow simultaneous left/right click

And you know what just redesign the whole thing around human hands, this silly aerodynamic bar of whittled soap has gone on long enough. I'd love something like this, keep what's good about it (macOS gestures), fix everything else. Without the dimple in this concept it could also easily be flipped around and used left or right handed with some Apple magic to auto sense which hand.

Yes! Keep the current design for the minimalists/masochists, but please introduce a separate model (call it the Magic Mouse Pro or whatever). I would buy one, and I suspect many others would too. But I will never again torture myself with the ergonomic nightmare that is the current Magic Mouse. I actually started to develop carpal tunnel syndrome (or something similar) from using it, until I switched to the Logitech MX years ago—zero problems since then.

P.S. I loved the smoothness and touch functionality of the Magic Mouse. I want one—but in a different, more ergonomic shape. And I don't care about the charging port location, just make it USB-C.

One of the best parts of being retired is I no longer have to screw around with downtime from work because of the FU mess that is the MagicMouse2 charging. One of the all time worst products Apple ever made. I don't really care now what they do with a new version.

Apple's Magic Mouse; the absolute worst mouse ever designed. It's like holding onto a razor blade.

Apple's Magic Mouse: The absolute best mouse ever designed. Its light, offers vastly superior scrolling over a hardware scroll wheel, and keeps your hand and wrist on your desk, which is ergonomically correct. I hope Apple keeps it the same except for adding a USB-C port.

Yep. This is by and large the biggest percent chance of what’s going to happen.
Au contrarie, mon fraire, that makes these devices ALL NEW, with the FASTEST, MOST VERSATILE port Apple has ever released in a peripheral device. The pipeline is STRONGER THAN EVER!

I just didn't think ports on the side was what people wanted, I've only heard people say they want it on the front so they can use it like a corded mouse, and I've never seen a wireless mouse with a port on the side before. Sounds goofy.

But if we're talking about the side... sure there is some room there, but I can see other issues like needing to have it be overly recessed due to the slope of the sides. More importantly it would look ugly compared to hiding it on the bottom... very un-Apple. Since the port being on the bottom is actually a non-issue for people who actually own a Magic Mouse, it's not surprising Apple would want to visually conceal it the way they do. But sure, Apple could move it to the side if they wanted.

It's just such a dumb thing to be worked up over. It literally has zero impact on you if you actually use one, unless maybe you are a robot that uses the mouse non-stop and doesn't sleep, therefore can't ever find 30 mins to recharge it.

So yeah I don't think bad design, its just a design that has some elements that are form over functionality, like most Apple products do.

They’ll map 1,000,000 ears to get a good AirPods fitment but release the least ergonomic keyboard and mouse.

1. Logitech made a bottom charging port mouse for their touch gesture based device.
That particular device also sells like crap and isnt exactly common, but sure, it’s bad design choice there too
2. Logitech uses different materials on their cables (cheaper toxic PVC)
It’s a plug, who cares what cheap usb cable logitech ships it with, I can use any cable from anyone.

Around Black Friday last year I just got tired of waiting for Apple to release a keyboard and a trackpad with USB-C. Don't regret the decision to purchase lightning accessories then and not wait for the rumour to finally come true, which it appears it finally is.

So you already lost it? XD

------------------------------------------------

Anyway, I never found the port on the bottom to be an issue but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if they move it and people are happy, then cool. If not, still not an issue, the mouse charges so fast that a quick coffee or bathroom break will get you a couple hours of charge, then when you're done, plug it back in for a full charge.

Same here not a biggie.

It's just another thing many people insist on getting enraged about, providing a feel-good empowering opportunity to slag Apple.
