word was Tim has ditched his for a Logitech

Either way it's probably wise to hold of pulling the trigger on the redesigned one until Apple has ironed the kinks out, the next gen should be dropping around 2041.

Two lesser requested but important features for a ‘modern’ mouse:

High polling rate for smooth, responsive cursor motion on high refresh displays (120-480Hz+)
Haptic feedback (Taptic Engine) I’m sure this could be a strong point of OS UI innovation as well as extending game-controller-only feedback to mouse input

Right exactly, 90hz polling just feels bad on ProMotion screens especially, not just being under 1:1 per refresh but forget about polling multiple times per screen refresh, feels imprecise and sloppy. And at that, it's an old first gen laser sensor and not at all like modern sensors like Bluetrack or Darkfield which can track on many more surfaces.

Taptic Engine would be very cool and could help the mouse feel the best integrated with macOS.

I really like the Dell and Microsoft mice, good ergonomics with simple, sculpted designs.

But the real problem is how they achieve this with glass and aluminium.

It's amazing how horrible Apple's mice are considering that they popularized mice driven UI. I don't even consider mice that don't have 2 buttons and a scroll wheel.

I have an MX master keyboard and mouse sitting in their boxes to sell. The keyboard was alright, but the mouse always got slimy for me, and I don’t get sweaty hands or anything. Hate the material and Logi Options is horrible software. At this point I don’t bother with an external mouse with my MBP.

Tim Cook would literally have to spend money on this instead of stock buybacks.

I like my MX Master 3S, but you are correct, the surface of the mouse is some sort of rubberized coating and it tends to get grimy and requires occasional cleaning.

The MX is a really good mouse, but do you guys really want Apple to do something like it?

Both the Magic Mouse and the MX are very popular and really liked by their users, even if they’re very different. There are many “traditional mouses” out there, so it would be very sad to lose the Magic Mouse concept just to get a slightly better clone of the rest of the industry.

There are many ways to improve the MM by thinking out of the box — I think it should keep its touch capabilities and avoid putting buttons and wheels everywhere, keeping the original concept in place.

I'm with the 'I like the magic mouse just as it is' "Except" I had the original one with the replaceable batteries, I had an insert that would allow me to wireless charge it on my mousepad (like you can put your phone on it and charge. I could put my mouse on it to charge.) Why not that?

And

>Will the next Magic Mouse cost more? No word on that from Gurman, yet.

hahahahahahaha

I’m also one of those crazy ones that loves the Magic Mouse. Bought it at launch and it’s still going strong today. Can’t wait to see what they come up with. I think there is tremendous opportunity for innovation here, with all that has happened in the ecosystem since the launch of the Magic Mouse in 2009.

How hard is it to move the charging port to front or at least to the side of mouse? The Magic Mouse has always been design over function. Love the looks hate charging it.

Update: leaked photos of the Magic Mouse 3 prototype shows the charging port has been moved to middle of the mouse's top surface, leaving nowhere to place the user's hand while recharging. Slightly sinister laughter was also heard coming from within Apple's Product Design department.

Oh Apple please please please do this, release a more ergonomic friendly version of the magic mouse! I love the idea of the magic mouse, the multitouch surface is awesome but its just too uncomfortable for anything but casual use. Huge lover of my magic trackpad and its my daily driver, but its nice to use a mouse sometimes. If Apple could somehow make a mouse somewhat like the MX Master but with their touch and looks it would be incredible.
