Yep, and here's the thread I referred to.

https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/8g6cme [automerge]1576034973[/automerge]

See here, it didn't have to be submerged, it just had to be too costly to repair from the coffee spill. Notice in the terms, partial or whole submersion is just an example. They don't cover any liquid damage that causes "excessive or catastrophic damage." So even if just a splash of liquid totally borks your computer, Apple is within their right to deny repair.
So they won't even cover against liquid damage? Per their own Apple Care + sales pitch video..:D

Maybe not, need to read the fine print at end of video at the bottom. Basically says it is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract.
Naturally people should always read the fine print. But alas you missed my point completely. The last paragraph by a poster on Reddit thread that was linked here made me chuckle, 100% true.

Take a look at the terms in the actual agreement:

“2.2 Services for Accidental Damage from Handling (“ADH Service”)

If during the Plan Term you submit a valid claim notifying Apple that the Covered Device has failed due to accidental damage from handling resulting from an unexpected and unintentional external event (e.g., drops and damages caused by liquid contact from spills) (“ADH”), Apple will, at its discretion and subject to the service fee described below, either (i) repair the defect using new or refurbished parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or (ii) exchange the Covered Device with a replacement product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability. Each time you receive services for ADH is a “Service Event”. Exclusions apply as described below. Further, services for ADH expire and all of Apple’s obligations to you under this Section are discharged and fulfilled in their entirety once Apple has provided to you two (2) Service Events. “

The damage needs to cause the device to fail in order to be covered.

So he essentially needs to drop it again from a higher height and break it for Apple to help him..😂

I'm confused, so what does AppleCare+ actually cover? OP not covered, also if the MacBook is destroyed (crush) not cover. So what is the point for having AppleCare+?

edit:
sounds like need to be between light and heavy damage.

Glad I found this thread. I wanted to add Apple care to my new 14" but I guess I won't.

I added Apple Care for my MacBook because I read about the SSD swap issue. It's good to have just incase something will happen to my SSD + they'll replace your battery too.

I miss the old Apple. I had a 3 month old iPhone 4 and was showing it to a friend on an 8th floor balcony and it slipped out of her fingers and crashed to the ground. Frame was warped, glass shattered, but it still worked! I took it to the Apple store the next day and asked how much to fix. He went in the back and just grabbed a new phone! No charge. That would never happen today.
Yep. I bought the first iPad, they talked me into Applecare bc who knows why, immediately put a bunch of work & tunes on it, went down to the beach, but dozed off listening to music instead. Woke up with a big wave crashing over me. FFFFFF Took it back into the Apple store before the end of the same day I bought it. They laughed and gave me a new one. When the mini came out, I was so excited I opened it walking through the parking lot on the way back to the car and fumbled it, dropping it on concrete. Took the shattered mess right back in and got my replacement. I guess the Cook era marked the end of that train, bc in the last few years as I recount those stories when considering purchasing it, the genius bar people always raise eyebrows and say things like "well those days are gone, you'll never see anything like that again". I guess you don't turn a company into a trillion dollar magical money tree without fighting for every dime.

They do cover liquid damage. I just had a 2019 16“ repaired, where the user was carrying the computer in a bag with a bottle of water that leaked into the computer. The computer had a burning smell and was dead, and the only thing that was not replaced was the display assembly. This was all covered for the $299 accidental damage fee, no questions asked.

Shame all actions by corps are solely based on profit margins.

Let me tell you how to claim 100% AppleCare+ accidental damage every single time. For I have done it about 5 times now (3x with mbp, 2x with iPad Pro) - throw it down a flight of concrete stairs. When you go to the store, tell them that your laptop was not secured inside the backpack and the zipper was opened enough for it to fall out when you were late to (name your event, name your class, etc).

I do this for the iPad pro's when I feel I need a new battery. Those that judge me you can go eat a hot dog.

Applecare+ does not cover cosmetic damages that doesn't effect functionality, however.

While I won't judge this morally either way, I genuinely appreciate and got a great laugh out of the open brazenness lmao.

I have AppleCare+ on all my Apple devices, and I have...well, all of the devices pretty much. In the last several months, I've attempted to use it to fix/replace several items which Apple refused to do, including an iPhone 13 Pro, a stainless steel Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro 1 that were failing according to their own diagnoses, and which their website implied were covered under the recall program...but were a few digits outside of their "covered serial numbers" range. Before AppleCare, Apple's regular warranty was better than this. If there was an issue with any of the first 4 iPhones, I just had to bring it to a store and they would replace it. It was that kind of customer service that built the kind of brand loyalty in myself that brought me back to the company for all my devices. As a result, I have dumped thousands and thousand of dollars into Apple's products and services. Now, between the way they fight you to prevent you from getting any use out of the warranty you've paid for, and the stories I hear over and over again online like this, I'm done buying AppleCare+. Us customers deserve better, especially ones who have been so loyal.
