Apple today added the original iPhone SE to its vintage and obsolete products list. The first version of the iPhone SE came out in March 2016, which means it has been seven years since it launched.

The iPhone SE was sold until September 2018, so it has been five years since it was last available for sale, making it eligible for Apple's vintage designation. Products are marked as vintage five years after the device was last sold by Apple, while products are marked as obsolete at the seven year point.

Vintage devices are not guaranteed to be eligible for repairs through Apple or Apple Authorized Service Providers, though Apple will offer repairs if the parts are available.

Apple has continued on with the iPhone SE line, and today, it continues to be the only iPhone that has a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. There have been three generations released to date, with the iPhone SE 3 introduced in March 2022.

Apple today has also marked the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro as vintage, as well as the special edition Mickey Solo3 Wireless headphones. The Powerbeats 2 and Solo2 Wireless headphones are now considered obsolete.

The iPhone SE 1 has it all, even a standard 3,5 mm headphone jack and a NO-Notch screen: "iPhone SE takes an incredibly popular design and refines it even further. Crafted from bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish, this light and compact phone is designed to fit comfortably in your hand. A brilliant 4‑inch Retina display makes everything look vibrant and sharp. And matte-chamfered edges and a color-matched stainless steel logo finish the look."

The first iPhone SE was the LAST real iPhone. All the current iPhones are just heavy overpriced iPads with a phone.
An iPod, a phone, an internet communicator.
This was the last real iPhone, in the classic sense. Steve Jobs didn't want us all using iPhones for hours and getting addicted. It was a pocketable device. Headphone jack was essential because it was an iPod. Small size was essential because you needed to hold it to your ear and make calls.
TBH the moments that the iPhone became more addictive can be seen in the iOS 7 software keynote. Things like fast multitasking and app-switching helped fuel the addiction. A year later, the iPhone 6/6+ turned my generation into walking zombies.

Maybe I'm silly but I have an iPhone SE in 128GB on the ready in case my 13 mini poops the bed. Part of me wishes it would happen so I have an excuse to use the SE. I will admit, the battery was replaced by Apple about a year ago and it is basically brand new. However, the phone DOES NOT hold a decent charge for that long. Like, even idle, the thing will just drop battery % every few hours. At the rate it drops, it seems like if I were using it to play music and browse the web on my ~40 minute morning bus commute I'd arrive with like 60% left. Not too good... I still love the SE so much though! If they ever make one that size again I'll literally trade my 13 mini in for it. As of now, I will not be buying any new iPhones unless they make a mini or smaller.

My dad is still using an 6S and this is basically a 5-shaped 6S, so I guess some of them are still loyally serving their hardcore small-form-factor-fan owners.

Well, just think in 5 to 10 years time that a phone this small with square screen might be on trend again.

Especially when it becomes unfashionable to have a large iphone when the vision se glasses can be taken out your bag and worn for anything requiring a large screen

On the train in 2029 🤔

Look at that guy, his iphones the size of ipad. Just wait for him to get a call, this is gonna look ridiculous. “Ring”…. 😂🤣🤣 its like the size of his head guys. His hands gonna ache if its over 5 minute call..

Still have one kicking around, functioning perfectly. At this point in time, a phone that size feels like a little jewel. I wish it was possible to have two iPhones activated with cell service on the same line (like with landlines how you have extension phones in different rooms) because I would definitely throw that SE into my pocket for a lighter carry when going out at night.

Loved it. Even after 4S. Light and capable. My current 12 mini is the only one that is close to it.
