iPad and iPad Pro are also excellent for looking at X-rays and showing patients up close. Modern digital X-rays even old school film ones just set the iPad to an all white page. And now telemedicine is taking off it’s gonna be a bigger help. It’s also noT so expensive or awkward as handing someone a laptop and we can put the iPad inside a soft rubber protective case.
It’s a lot more practical to hand someone an iPad/ tablet than it is to hand them a laptop. iPads definitely have their use cases when they are more suitable than a fully fledged PC or laptop.

What if you have more than one iPad? I have a 12.9 Pro that I use primarily for work. I answered the poll based on that. But I also have an iPad mini that I use primarily for consumption.

Perhaps people in developed countries and where Apple has its own stores some people can have 2-3 iPads for various purposes one for work, one for media consumption, one for wife, one for kid...Blah...Blah... lol ! But to own so many Apple products in such a large quantity is something not everyone can afford ! Not in all Countries !

So.... because subjonas doesn’t match your notion of other people not owning more than one iPad, it’s not a valid use case?

Excel is not as good on iOS as MacOS.

Honestly I kind of disagree. Excel to me on iOS with an iPad Pro and Keyboard approaches Excel on MacOs. Both are obviously inferior to Windows, but Excel users know that already. Word is great on both.

Going back to your original point, I haven't opened my Macbook in several weeks. iPad Pro serves most of my computing needs. I will go the MacBook for certain tasks, but the iPad Pro is a capable work device.

Also, a base iPad 10.5" would seem to suit your needs well.

One problem with this poll is that it assumes that content consumption and work are two different things. They are not. There are a lot of professional people that spend a fair amount of productive work time consuming content:

  • Reading Emails and Messages
  • Reading and Reviewing documents and PDFs
  • Scheduling and Planning Event
  • Reading Books and Professional Journals
  • Web Research

Also, “Light Content Creation” is a big part of doing work and is very compatible with iPad:
  • Responding to Emails and Messages
  • Marking up and Annotating Documents and PDFs
  • Taking Notes
  • Drafting Memos and Outling Reports
  • Simple Spreadsheets for “on the fly” business calculations
The lists go on and on.

For some people, the iPad has replaced a Laptop because most of their work activities away from the office are mainly content consumption and light content creation. For these folks, they prefer the iPad’s form factor and mobile OS for work when they are....you know....mobile. They save the heavy lifting for their desktop computer back at the Office.

PS - There are plenty of highly paid professionals that spend a huge part of their work day at client sites or engaged in “meet and deal” activities. These folks might spend less than 20% of their time working in the Office on a traditional computer. For some, if they are sitting in their office at their computer, they probably aren’t doing their job.

This is 100% correct. And going further, I would guess that 66% of "work" done on a computer period fits this "light content creation" paradigm. This isn't 1995, when everyone thought they needed a new Packard Bell tower every two years to do "work."

50/50? I do have two.. one older and one new one. And I use both for work and entertainment. They have different work functions burt similar entertainment functions. Sold my MBP... I’m all in on iPads.

Mine is 50/50. My iPad Pro is my only computer for work and personal use. I use it all day at the office and then at home at night, unless I am more comfortable using my iPhone for something. Just depends.

100% for consumption - I'm retired. However, that would have been the same when I was working as we could not use personal devices for work-related activities.

Though is that 100% consumption or do you use it for creation (not necessarily "work", could be personal creation)?

Work and Creation isn't a 100% equal equation.

Maybe 99% consumption :) The reality is that because I have benign tremors, I really need a mouse for any serious creation. I gave the pencil a try on my 10.5 but it's a total loss. This is the big reason for me why a tablet will never be a total laptop or desktop replacement.

Got it!
